• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Do Scammers use Reverb?

Just one thing not mentioned here- make sure all communication goes thru reverb. Period- no exceptions.
A "friend of ours" Werner bought a guitar from a US dealer via reverb and it had a specific weight- and the guitar was way over that when he received it. He went straight to the seller and that really complicated things.
Everything thru reverb.
Write that down.

Scammers are everywhere and they come up with more ways to take someone every day. But not everything that is odd is a scam.

Recently I pulled up a LP on Reverb and realized it was a local instrument. Then I pulled up the shop and the seller has over 50 guitars, and about 20 of them are all the custom stuff from Gibson and Fender. He's got 7 Murphy Lab, CS or R9 '59s listed right now.
Since this was a local listing, I sent a message asking if they had a shop in town, because I didn't know of one. They have a better selection than anyone else locally. I got a reply days later saying they didn't have a shop. I started to wonder if someone hadn't rigged things to get his/her items to come up first in searches when you enter location.

I talked to the owner of one of the two only guitar stores in town. He was pretty sure he knew who it was. In short, he described him as a guy who just wheels and deals in guitars.

I'm wary of a lot of the postings from Japan.
I can see 3 or 4 pics of the same guitar from 3 or 4 different entities with little to no descriptions.

That's normal in Japan. They'll sell the guitar through 3 or 4 consignment? shops and whoever sells it first gets the money and makes their little bit for selling it for thr owner.

Okay so, it could sell 3 or 4 times on the same day??

Yes there are scams on Reverb. Fake Klons, fake Pre-CBS strats, all things I have seen before and reported. Anytime something looks like a too-good-to-be-true deal its probably a scammer.
Op looks like you went through proper channels so Kudos on the sale.
