• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Do we like 1974 Les Paul Customs?

I've had a bunch of 70s stuff. For a custom with 70's specs, it's hard to to beat 70-74-ish. Mahogany neck, no metal bushings under the bridge, Decent neck joint.

Enjoy!

I've had to suffer my 74 custom for the last 38 years.

People constantly telling me what a lovely guitar its is and what a good sound. 2 even asking to buy it. Now I find that it's worth nearly 10 times what I paid for it

The sufferance indeed. ;)

I dig ’em……. Couldn’t afford a ‘69 so I bought a late ‘74 that was sold as a ‘72. I’ve been real happy with it…….

I have run into a handful of people who were told their LP Customs were 72’s & it ended up being a ‘74 or ‘75. When I couldn’t swing a ‘69, I went after a Kalamazoo made Custom before they opened a second factory in Nashville. It ended up being a great 2nd choice!
Your Custom looks amazing!

I have the gold pup covers, gibson abr bridge with nylon saddles and the witch top controls in the case. it got converted to chrome way back then. Yours has that nice gold hardware, I like both looks.

Yes, my favourite Les Pauls! Top sustain, they are articulate and have punchy tight tone with T-Tops. Excellent hardrock Les Pauls.

I think '74 Customs are great. Here's my old one:

full

It had to be sold to help finance my '57 Special.

Hopefully, the one the OP is looking at still has the original pickups. I really liked those old TTops.

I owned a ‘75-‘76 Red Wine LP Custom with silver hardware. Owned it for 30+ years and sold it some time ago. A great looking, great sounding, and great playing guitar that served me well for many years.

The pancake body on the and three piece neck on the ‘70’s LP’s might bother me now, especially after owning six Custom Shop Historic guitars.
