• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Do you like Pre or Post 73 JPP? and whatever happened to his double white PAF?

Jimmy’s tone at RAH was a thing of beauty. His tone at MSG was equally brilliant. i like both equally and chalk up most of the variation between the two to the acoustics at the venue ans the recording equipment used. That said it would be nice to know what happened to his double white RAH PAF after it was replaced by the T top. That would be sad if it was just tossed. Anyone know?

I like the sound and performance of Zeppelin at the 1973 Madison Square Gardens dates better than the earlier 1970 Royal Albert Hall. ( So T-top bridge PU with Marshall amp; rather than PAF bridge PU with Hiwatt amp)

However, I like the sound of Zeppelin II, III, and IV with the PAF bridge pickup better than the later albums with a T-top. Am I weird? :)

The original PAF died in Australia in 1972, but was sent to Dan Armstrong in NY for repair, I think.

Did it quit again soon after, causing the T-top to be installed?...

Completely the opposite for me- much prefer the RAH tone to MSG. Hiwatt + PAF >> Marshall + T-Top, IMHO.

Going a bit off topic.
The sound I liked most was when in the early days of Zep he used his Tele .
The Danish TV show was great.
Just my 2 cts.
