Hey Everybody!

Just came across this forum and really like what I see, so I’m hoping to become a part of this community.

For my first post, I wanted to share an incredible Les Paul guitar going up for sale. It’s the 1957 Goldtop Gibson “Layla” Les Paul Guitar, which was his main guitar during his first two years in the Allman Brothers. We all know about this guitar, it is one of the most historic and publicized guitars ever. I even saw this guitar live in concert and the sound was just beautiful. The owner lets people play it, the Rolling Stones were supposed to play it at the end of July. I recently saw Gottahaverockandroll.com has the guitar and they estimate it at 1.5 million - 3 million dollars. Their auction starts tomorrow. Do you think it is going to sell? The guitar is so awesome.

Well, if this is legit, I hope whoever buys it will keep on letting people play it live. Having it at the Big House was a perfect place for it and Richard is a great custodian. I was lucky enough to play it in Arlington one year.

I thought it was fake. But I checked with someone in the know, and they said it's true. Virtually no notice.

It has not been for sale since 2004, and Mike Boulware is not the owner; Scot LaMar is.
Auction goes live tomorrow at 9am EST, and runs for 10 days...should be very interesting!

Right, but yeah it has. I was in the room with Mike and Charlie Hargrett when
they look at old pics and films trying to get definite proof it was Duanes. came down to the inlay.:)

Hah, I just remembered too that guitar was for sale in 2004 as well in a pawn shop in G-ville Fl.
Stolen from Scots girlfriend/wife the night before. pawned. It was returned. $150 thereabouts.

Just an observation. The pickups are not the ones Duane used. Actually I'm not even sure they are the ones Duane swapped out from the cherryburst. Any speculation how much that might affect the auction?

It’s funny - you all seem to know only bits and pieces of the real story
Hey Scot, I was in Tallahassee when Mike called to be on the lookout for the
guitar in pawn shops there. What was the original story? Glad it was recovered.
But still interesting. I know Charlie and I played the guitar that night or one before at Lillians.
