• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Yes, I ordered Oly white and I still have my receipt... I've actually posted pics here in the past ...not sure exactly where at the moment. But I custom ordered as inspired by Hendrix's Woodstock Strat. I also have great photos I took of a '61 Olympic white Strat I had years back that had very clear defined layers of wear....yellowed clear and white nitro. Actually three Olyimpic white pre-CBS Strats I've had over the years and the white is very well defined from the yellowed clear on all. i'll dig up some pics

D `accord with the early sixties appearance of the finish.
Has your `72 olywhite yellowed ?
I do not get how poly can yellow... I mean not getting darker or "amber" , but yellowing like some old headstocks. Usually poly is just one layer. Because the layers are seperated when sprayed one after the other is dry. You would sand through each layer and this looks bad.
That is the great advantage of nitro. There are no separated layers. They melt together while toppping one to the last.

The swifters guitar with the checking looks like lacuer. Clear nitro on poly filler ?

I once removed the sunburst finish from a ´73 / ´75 strat , it was for sure nitro on top of a poly undercoat.

You gotta remember that tar and nicotine do something different to a finish than just natural aging will. I'm a career player, my only job for 42 straight years, well over 6000 one nighters and the Strat saw thousands of hours of smoke filled club work. It did yellow somewhat but still not as much as a '65 I had that endured similar environment. I'll post pics of the aging and wear areas from arm-wear that broke through it.
