• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Update -
Shiped my EE Signature SG back to the Custom Shop last week. Recall that it had several finish flaws and a dead rhythm pickup. I got an email back today from a supervisor at Gibson saying this...

"I just spoke with the repair manager who informed me that they will be replacing your guitar. However, the replacement will retain the same serial number. At this time I don’t know the time this will take, but the replacement will be given our highest priority so that you don’t have to wait too long."

So it seems like it was too much trouble to rework/refinish the guitar I originally had. Since the new one will retain the same serial number, I wonder if they will destroy the original guitar. I wouldn't want another guitar with an identical serial number floating around.

Cheers
Brian

Hey Elliot,

After watching "night tonight" for the tenth time I have to say that you couldn't of picked a better singer to replace Ric Ocasik. Todd pegs the Cars sound perfectly! Good job:applaude

If they are replacing it with the exact number, then yeah, I would say the one you sent back will be stripped for parts and destroyed.

I think that's the best outcome you could ask for. Why start futzing around sanding a new guitar and losing the sharply defined contours.

However, the replacement will retain the same serial number. At this time I don’t know the time this will take, but the replacement will be given our highest priority so that you don’t have to wait too long."

Fair enough.

I think you're better off and will be happier in the long run.

Oh yeah; that puppy's got a date with a bandsaw! You can count on it!

Congratulations on a great outcome, and best wishes for a happy ending!

Hi EE! Yeah I absolutely read it and wrote him privately from my email account. It was very cool of Mark to offer his help. I had already been in contact with a Gibson rep who arranged to have it picked up from my house today. He promised that his best guys will give it a full overhaul at the shop. I gave Mark all of that information so maybe he can follow up on it for me. Its nice to know that some Gibson folks are active in the forum and are willing to help out when somebody has a problem. I've been pleased with the customer service I've received so far. Everyone has been very gracious. I'm confident that its going to be fine.

Apparently, from what the rep could tell, my #12 is the first lefty off of the line. He couldn't account for #11...maybe that's one you have?? =)

EE - You're absolutely right. This is the best possible outcome for me. Now I just have to wait! I'm anxious to rip on that thing. Thanks for being cool and responding to my posts. =)

Andreja - Tijana is a cute name. I think she'd appreciate the Tiki God guitar as a family heirloom. I remember seeing a righty Pelham blue on www.sweetwater.com.

Hi All:

Don't know if you're listening Elliot but I can't believe you mentioned Doug Savides and Tony DiCaprio ?

I grew up in Massapequa and graduated Berner in 1970. I even make a passing reference to Massapequa connection on my own website. Elliot is among my list of more famous people... that is more famous than me.

Doug Savides was the coolest kick ass guitar player in town. I believe he played in a couple of bands including one called "Skye" (I think that's how they spelled it.). Maybe my memory is faded but I recall someone in that band (maybe not Doug) w/ a Vox teardrop 6 string, which was way cool to see in person for the first time. I remember the show was at Massapequa HS and wanted to see the guitar up close and recall being shown how bad the action was.

There were other great bands and there was a club next to Massapequa HS called "Key." I was too young (or not let out of the house) but my older brother went there. He graduated in 1964.

Anyway last I heard back then about Doug was that he went to Vegas and played w/ Tom Jones or something like that. Was making a living as a guitar player.

Tony's name I rememer too but can't recall much. There were other great players. Unfortunately, the details are fogging up like:

Our mailman Sal's son on drums. Last name (Italian) escapes me and he may have played w/ Doug... or... with the band "Earth." I remember taking guitar lessons in the basement where his drums were AND maybe those lessons were with Tony. Earth had a guy named Eddie on Hammond.

Anyway, memory lane. I wish I could remember more. Would love to hear more about Doug and Tony if there is anything to share.

QUOTE=Elliot Easton;1272074]Did you go to Mckenna and Carmon road ?

I went to Berner for Jr. High, and Massapequa High School (class of '71) Alex Baldwin was my social studies teacher; he was a great guy.

What have you heard about Doug Savides and Tony DiCaprio ?

Nothing about Doug, but he was the greatest player in my town, which was a town of great players. i really looked up to him; the guy was a legend...and then psychedelic drugs entered the picture and he seemed to have lost a few panels on re-entry, It's a sad story; the Syd Barrett of Massapequa, and that's no joke- the guy could literally play anything, and then pfft-gone. Tony DiCaprio, I used to get together with when I lived in Manhattan in the late 80's-early '90's. Fantastic, deep musician.[/QUOTE]

Hey guys, I'm wondering something. Now that its been 16-17 years since these SG's were made, is the finish greening and checking naturally?
Thanks for any input.

I met Tony years ago. Amazing talent and a really great guy. I became really close friends to one of the professors I studied with at Berklee back in the 90s and he introduced me to Tony a few times over the years. Hanging with those two was intimidating but probably some of the most fun I've ever had playing guitar.

Nice to see his name pop up. Sitting down with Tony was like sitting down with Mick Goodrick, just in awe of being with a true master!

I wanted the SG when it came out but couldn't swing it. I do have these two!

There ya go! I've got the Tiki, southpaw natch.

Posing with the Klon, TS, and Drip edge: your studio as well as your 'good find' collection is great to see here. Hmm. Soon the Gretch will come out.
