• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Why wouldn't the owner want the serial number saved or reapplied? :wah

Knobs aren't right. Maybe the keys also. :hmm

That's outrageous for a used guitar. It's all chipped on the back.

Here's Eric as a young whippersnapper!

Is that the same Les Paul in the auction??? :hmm (sorry - no color shots available)

I would think the seller would want to name the luthier who replaced the neck.

I think that's the flamey refin he had in the early 70s.
I saw it in the 70s, when I met him. He was at the earliest version of Rockin' Robin, in Houston. Bart's house. I was just an observer, for a couple of minutes.
Wish I could see it now. Then it was refinned to look like a Rickenbacker sunburst [pinkish] and the flames were pretty righteous.
I bet that's the Burst in the photo. :)

Might be Ed Reynolds.....I believe he does EJ's fretwork (as well as working on David Grissom's guitars). He's an onry old cuss. Used to be up here in Chicago at Wooden Music. IMHO, Ed is just the kind of guy who might do something like that.

Where did you get the idea that the neck was replaced? :hmm

One third of it. Look closely at the pictures ( back of neck around the 4th to 5th fret area).

It would have been easy to take better pictures of that section if the seller were so inclined.

Right. The headstock's wrong. The keys should probably be double rings. And the top screw of trussrod cover should be about in line with the two 'E' string posts. This one's way short of that. :hmm

Yep, looks like they spliced on about one third of a neck:

Yeah, I saw that guitar at their shop around'76 or '77 when they were still on Rice Blvd before they moved to S. Shepherd, there was a young guy working there that redid it, Bart said it had a veneer flame top on it, not long after that Bart had EJ's '68 goldtop for sale, it had humbuckers installed in it and was very rough, lots of checking and wear, the fingerboard was almost black, I should have jumped on it but instead I opted to buy a pristine goldtop he had.
