Because of the Pandemic...my local dealer is unloading a mint Gibson R8 2003 with Brazillian Board, confirmed serial number 8xxx, and it has a slight flame maple on it..for 4000 USD....I think it is a bargain...it still has the sticker on the pickguard and complete case candy....I have been looking for an R8 for years and this one popped on my radar...Definitely get it? I think it is a bargain...and I can do 3 months installments on it...

That looks like a 2011-2012 based on the 3 way toggle switch cover plate, the sticker on the pickguard is the same as a 2016 R8 i had.

In 2012 they used the Lifton case, i believe?

Im leaning on a 2011, with no Brazilian board and the pickguard from another guitar?

The 2013 had a Lifton case, and one of the all metal Gibson Custom Shop 3 way toggle switch cover plates..

Some 2003 Brazilian board R8’s came with a tweed case as well, if memory serves

Im about 99 percent sure they didn't have COAs for a regular R8 in 2003... let alone one that came in that little booklet like that. the back of the guarantee foldout thing should also have a date. I don't think they had those stickers on the PG like that in 2003 either but I could be wrong.

there's this too.

They had COA’s then, all my early 2000’s Gibson Custom shop did, but they were the 8x10 paper COA not the booklet. No sticker on guard, plastic toggle plate

Agree this is probably a 2013

OP's location appears to be Indonesia. It's plausible that the dealer is not that knowledgable on Historics. These may not be very common in that region. The photos reveal enough to definitively prove it's not an '03. But, $4K for a NOS 2013 R8 in Indonesia is probably a good deal for that region.

Just looked at that and it's 57,142, 857.00 rupiah.
But yes US$4k these days is a good enough price.

Let's see here- well for one, there's the internet, and folks do learn from that- these things (braz) sell for upwards of $10K. Most people are in in for a profit, whatever "it' is. If you hear hoofbeats think horses, not zebras. The minute someone edges toward lying the whole thing should collapse- playing coy is lying. ("It's a 69/70- well a really really really early 70- with a pancake body and a volute- but that makes it almost a 69!")
But $4k for an R8 is a fair price.

AFAIK

The white/gold COA was first, pre-2003 (circa 1999-2002?)
The orange COA was after (circa 2003-2006?)
The black book COA, various versions, has been used since (circa 2007-present?)
