Good thing you bump'ed this thread! Otherwise I wouldn't have had the pleasure to droll over your burst.
A stunning example! Congrats, I hope you'll enjoy her for a looong time :)
And re. your question about raised tailpiece: I'm pretty sure the factory screwed the tailpiece almost all way down, but my guess is only based on a couple pictures I've seen, where it looks like there is no gap between the top and the tailpiece. (A catalog pic, and one of mr. Les Paul inspecting a Custom at the factory floor together with Ted McCarty).

What an entrance (albeit a few years back) and what a great story!
Yes, by all means, have Charlie take some photos - he's an amazing photographer and really knows how to capture the beauty of the burst!!

it has a super nice clean tone, really musical, even turned way up its pretty crisp and really nice sounding, when you peg it its pretty good, however the pickups i feel arent the hottest pickups around, with a good pedal of choice i,m sure it would hold its own and could be pretty crunchy. also this is possibly a bit unfair because i am comparing this burst to the screamingest pair of p.a.f's ive played, my goldtop.
this burst wasnt played much but still plays really nice which is a testament to gibson quality in those times. it does have one high fret, around 9th fret. i,m thinking about giving it a little tap to seat it. or not. kind of scary, maybe let a mainstream luthier tap it in!
the guitar is a pleasure to play. i waited till an untouched 100% original example popped up because its also an important investment for future generations (who currently want to play trumpet and sax) i,m working on them.
my goldtop is a 57 and it owns me for heavy screaming crunchy rythm and leads, the pickups must be hotter. the 2 guitars cover anything i would ever need, maybe throw in an ash body strat or an old black guard.
thank you all forum members for the kudos! i,m a forest gump when it come to posting and i had back tracked to give some thumbs up on this post and to touch basses with mr Daughtry concerning hopes of photos someday. the silver ligning for me was it bumped the post!
upon my untimely demise i,m instructing my wife to list guitars for sale on this forum first. she has this saying 'take the short nickel'... your welcome.
ps. i will get pics of goldtop, its not 100 percent straight up...but neither were my last 2 wives.
