• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Fretboard filler or real wood - What do you think?

Not sure, but maybe scrape it flatter with a razor (paint scraper)?

Stangely enough it feels weird to the touch.
Not sure what is it though...strange to have this on a premium priced guitar though

The question I have for the OP is did you buy the guitar used? I have a hard time imaging Gibson Custom sending out new Custom Shop instrument with said flaw . The links provided were not working so I can't judge for myself what the flaw is on the fretboard .

So no answer from the OP , so just another complainer of the beloved Gibson Custom . (suspicion confirmed , as in purchased used and who knows what kind of crap happened to it , so let's blame Gibson Custom , I DON'T THINK SO )

Looks like a bit of glue or filler to repair a small cosmetic flaw. Gibson isn't going to scrap an otherwise perfectly good board after planning due to one little mark like that.

I see what you mean, but perhaps it's not clear on the picture- the indentation is somewhat pushing on the binding. I can assure you it's more than "simply cosmetic". I love my guitar but I hope that little spot doesn't get worse with time

it's hard for me to judge from the picture whether it's a filled up flaw or an indentation. I had a Les Paul once and a Strat's tuner was hammered into the fretboard leaving a dent of about the same size. I took a damp cloth and pressed it onto the fretboard with an electric iron for not too long and the compressed wood lifted more or less completely.

Not suggesting you should give this method a shot but if you do so, be careful, I won't take any responsibility

Thanks for the help...in my case it looks like it was filled to correct a hole or something. No big deal as I love the guitar anyway, I was just curious if anyone else had something similar
