Indeed! I have it on good authority that God was still struggling with the Crossroads solo...until EVH showed up to help!
I saw EVH in 78, VH supporting Black Sabbath on the Never Say Die tour.

He didn't bloody help me any as a young budding guitarist, in fact after listening to him for five minutes I was looking in the classifieds for a trombone....the caper was well and truly up, still is, can't get anywhere near him.

How's the trombone coming along? I presume you've heard this below somewhere along the way. While still EVH-esque, I don't think he missed a note. Possibly one short bend but the other 5,246 notes and pick plucks seemed spot on 😛 (I have actually gotten closer to 'Eruption' than I ever did the Crossroads solo, but that's open for critique too)

I said to the Wife " I want to sound like Jack Teagarden"

She replied " You've cracked sounding like a Beer Garden"

Man, these bleedin critics eh?

Eddie doing Crossroads, yeah I've heard that more times than is good for my health. I see that as one Master musician paying homage to another.

I just stand back and smile when listening to such accomplishment, from any musician that gets me grooving, and there are many.

I've never once danced to a magazine critics article.

I got banned from another forum for calling rolling stone a “liberal douchebag rag”

and I told the moderator to fuck themselves too, that may have contributed.
LMAO.........that's a beauty, as they say, no conflict no drama. We're decidedly more moderate and conservative around here 😊

That's kind of the point of thread - how far the mighty have fallen. It's almost if we have forgotten just who was behind the coveted, Beano LP, as if that guitar somehow played itself. But like most things, I guess, it's 'what have you done for me, lately?' In EC's case, apparently, that's nothing. Off to the dustbin of ancient history...

Now that I think about it, who more than EC, by virtue of carrying on the blues tradition - for a very long time, said, "Black Lives Matter?" He's probably more 'woke' than any modern day, "Music Journalist" knows. And isn't that what this is really all about?

Yes I remember either on this forum or the MLPF some young blokes saying 'we need another blues album from EC, he hasn't done anything lately'. So I asked if they'd played and studied From The Cradle, Me and Mr Johnson and Marsalis & Clapton...........no reply.

“God” has not made a decent record since 1974.
Just as Clapton has every right to voice his opinion on any issue, he is not immune from criticism from a free press.
And I reserve my right not to buy a ticket if he ever gets the courage up to play in New York again.

Can tell you're not a fan of EC..........who else don't you like, and who do you like.

Polling Stone is and has been a waste of good paper and ink for almost as long as I can remember.
I was given a subscription in the early 80s that I promptly cancelled.

I subscribed to RS back in college back in '87. After a few issues I started doing the same. Why anyone reads that rag is beyond me.
The only reason I still have a subscription is because in the early 90's, they did a lifetime subscription offer for $99. I plan on making them honor that agreement for decades yet!!

Here’s a article from the Washington Post quoting Robert Cray and others about Clapton. EC an Van Morrison compared mandated vaccinations and shutdowns during the deadliest worldwide pandemic with slavery and chained humans. Interesting forum this is - attack Rolling Stone magazine instead. Now you can jump on the Post.
That article has its own thread: https://www.lespaulforum.com/index.php?threads/claptons-shameful-slide.218127/

Claptons typical of his generation politically. Bigotted and racist in my opinion. I speak with first hand knowledge, being brought up by his generation.

His anti vax stance was unacceptable and a few other things he has said over the years (like his racist rant caught on tape at a gig). Means I can no longer listen to any of his music.

Vaccines are the reason we are are healthy as we are today. Imagine cov19 in a world were small pox, diphtheria, chicken pox, measles, rubella, hep A B C, tetanus, polio, hib, whooping cough, Streptococcus pneumoniae, rotovirus, oh wait you don't have to, look at the numbers that died from spanish flu. Antivaxers need publicly flogging. Yes I have an opinion on this.

EC made the racist comments in the '70s, fifty years ago or so when he was in his 20s.
Don't lump all baby boomers in the same boat that's a gross generalisation and definitely not typical of us older 60s/70 somethings, for example I'm not anti vax or racist and nor are any of my buddies and their families or the majority of our population here in NZ.
This day and age we face greater social issues than we possibly ever have and luckily there isn't a world war raging about the place which I'm very thankful for.

We need to stop hating each other- that would be a start.
