• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

G3 tonight!

Quick summary, since I get the distinct feeling that none of you give a crap about it. :)spin

Was very silly and a lot of fun. Satch had the best tone by far, Vai got the longest standing ovation by far, and Yngwie had the most body fat by far. :lol2

I saw it in San Diego. It was a pretty good show.

I couldn't believe Yngwie though. :wow

Yngwie was way more concerned with his leg kicks and his guitar/pick throwing skills than his actual playing.

What surprised me was that he is obviously not serious about his act. He fully assumes his clownesque attitude and he laughs at the crowd reaction he gets (people were jokingly giving him two-handed devil signs while screaming and laughing... see pic above)

Also, that was the first time I saw him play... while he clearly possesses monster speed, he *cheats* a whole lot (flubs, blurred notes, etc.) and he had a VERY liberal sense of rhythm last night. Constantly trailing or rushing the beat - speaking of which, his rhythm section (notably drums and keys) was *phenomenal*. I was glad that they were allowed a spot to show off while Yngwie was on the side drinking God knows what.

Vai stole the show. That guy is (still) out of this world... while I don't care for his tone nor his albums, I heartily put him at the #1 spot in my list of all-time most technically gifted electric guitarists. Awesome awesome awesome technique.

Tony McAlpine is a monster. I thought I'd miss Keneally, but this guy just smokes. Great tone from his Carvin too.

Satch, as usual, played a straightahead, very conventional rock set. A bit underwhelming, but his semi-dirty neck pickup tone was glorious, IMO. My brother disagreed, saying Malmsteen won the tone contest :)wtf he sounded way overprocessed and digital to me)

All in all, that was a fun & freakish guitar show. I also noticed way more women in the audience than the first G3 show I saw in 97. :dude
