• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Gary Moore.

Gary was one of the most macho LP players of all time. Without Gary there’s no Sykes and consequently no Zakk Wylde.

Gary was capable of more subtlety than either of them RIP

If I was a stick of rock and you cut me in half, the rock would probably say Gary Moore (or Thin Lizzy). So you can say that I am a fan!
I have been lucky enough to have seen him on several occasions but the stand out one (for being bad) was a show at "The Mayfair" club in Newcastle where he played the likes of End of the World, so I guess it could have been to promote The Corridors of Power album. The sound was absolutely terrible. It was just a noisy mush of sound. Horrible. But other times, amazing. The Black Rose tour show that I went to was incredible. Seeing Moore and Gorham on the same stage was magic and then to have Phil Lynott and Brian Downey there too was heaven. One good tale I have that involves Gary Moore was that he gave my girlfriend one of his plectrums after a show (again in Newcastle). When she told me this, many years ago my ears must have picked up with excitement. "Can I use it, please?" "Err...no, I throw it out as it was of no use to me," she said. The sensible thing then would have been to dump her and find a new love but I saw potential in her strong back which has proved useful over the years with heavy wheelbarrows. She is a keeper. Or at least until she finishes all of the house renovation work.

I too like his hard rock more than his blues, and his blues were fantsastic! I always think of him with the Victims of the Future and the blues cam later.
Crazy amazing guitar on those albums.,

Funnily enough, when I saw Gary Moore at a show in Newcastle (mentioned on this thread) he played his Junior for almost all of the show. My memory is a bit hazy with the detail but I think he also played a white "strat" guitar. Probably a Charvel or similar. The sound was still horrible. lol.

Different show that I went too. Only Les Pauls and a 335.
