• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Gary Moore.

Gary was one of a kind. When he was still around he got a lot of flack on forums (this included), and I understand he wasn't everyones cup of tea. But I think no one can ever deny his pretty much perfected musicality, he had such force and instinct on the guitar that he seemingly NEVER made a mistake (at least from what I've heard and seen). And this from a young age. Vibrato, intonation, anger, softness, dynamics, he had it all. And most of all, he played with "confidence", something that's hard to describe but easily recognized, probably unmatched.

I believe he will be held in the same status as Beck, Clapton and Page one day. IMHO he should be at least. His biggest "mistake" was that he was just a LITTLE bit too young to have made the same impact on music :)

11 years, that's crazy. I wish he could have finished his latest collection of songs :(

Gary Moore was one of the greatest bluesmen to come out of Ireland since Van Morrison and Rory Gallagher. It was sad when Gary Moore passed, but he left behind a GIANT legacy.

Late to the party as usual. Time moves so fast, seems like yesterday. Don't Believe A Word, Separate Ways, Empty Rooms, so many great songs..

And here he is showing you can do it all on a Junior...

Total monster player...I love his stuff.
Touch, feel, dynamics, taste...he had it all.
I think the only thing that keeps him out of the pantheon of the greats is that he never did anything terribly unique or groundbreaking.
As Eyore said, "We can't all, and some of us don't."

It also helps that Gary Moore played alongside one of the greatest bassists ever, Phil Lynott.

Blues For Narada is a song that, for some reason never gets mentioned. Adult chords with a Wes style melody line and Gary's soulful shredding is one of my favorites. Too bad there are no videos. It appears on the "Blues & Ballads" album from '94.

We went to see him on his last tour. He was very aggressive with the crowd (tit for tat stuff) and insulted his technician over the microphone . All of his guitars sounded the same whether it was a 335, his real burst or what I think were re-issues - all too much overdriven. We left before he got to his 'hits' as we just couldn't stand anymore solos. I appreciate he was an amazing player and I loved his 'Still got the blues' album but that night was a huge disappointment

I was lucky enough to see him in Birmingham (UK) on the After Hours tour with Dave Hole supporting and then with Gary supporting B.B. King at the Sheffield Arena. He was great both times. Lovely touch and feel. Brian Downey was on drums for the B.B. King tour so I was a very happy bunny to see half of Thin Lizzy playing live.
