• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I thought it would be amusing to read stories on how we justify or sneak our new Historics into the house without penalty or with penalty? We all have stories to tell...share how you've been elusive or have been busted!

I've got enough now that one or two new guitars aren't going to be that noticeable. Also, if i buy them online, i have them shipped to my work address to help avoid getting busted.

Put he guitar under the bed in the guest room and let the case gather dust. After a couple of months ask your wife "honey have you seen xxx guitar? I can't find it anywhere?" Then search the house and miraculously it turns up. That's worked on 2 guitars.

Once my wife walked in on me with a new/used guitar I was playing, "when did you get that one?" "What do you mean? I've had this one forever."

She thinks they all look alike anyway.

True story.

Leave one of your monthly bills out on the living room table, and with a red marker circle the name of who pays it.

My wife finally gave up on asking where this guitar or that guitar came from. She just said "Write down how much each one is worth so that I can sell them all when you're dead". I haven't gotten around to making that list yet because I fear that when she finds out what they're worth I may end up six feet under sooner than expected. :bug :rip

I've done this before as well and even snuck guitars into the house when everyone's a sleep from the car in the garage... LOL. Now, I have so many and have sold some my wife doesn't know what comes and goes. She's Ok with it now and appreciates the fact that it's an expensive hobby for me. Still fun to jump the shark, so to speak! :couch

My technique is to leave the guitar outside the apartment while I check if the coast is clear. Usually I have the guitars delivered at the office so when I come home after 6pm the wife is often cooking. So I get in first and wait around until she has her hands busy and won't likely turn towards the hallway. Then I sneak in the new baby.
Then comes the other issue. She doesn't care for guitars but has a good idea of how many cases should be in my guitar lair. So I have to get creative on the layout of the cases. I've managed to go from 15 to 20 guitars at times without getting too much grief.
If I do get caught, I show her the old beat up cheapo guitar (=expensive Murphy relic) and tell her it's worth nothing.

Another technique is to leave in the morning with an empty guitar case, pretending you might have a jam after work, and bring it back in the evening with a guitar in it. You tell you've cancelled your jam because you wanted to be with her and everyone's happy.

And yes, I've snuck in amps too... Once I gave an old Fender Performer to a friend to sneak in a Princeton. To the female eye, they look the same.

Forget all the other "Why age a Historic?" threads..

That is maybe the best reason for purchasing an aged or relic Gibson yet.

I just snuck a peak at 'Modern Women' forum...thread titled: 'How to keep your husband from finding out you're cheating'. One of the posts says '...pretend not to notice his new guitars...'.

I use my drummer's studio as a halfway house for the amps. For the guitars, I usually throw a friend under the bus..."No honey, Dave's just letting me try it out."

My wife is a professional musician AND a doctor. I can't get away with anything because she knows gear and is just is way too smart.

SO I just talk about the next piece of gear I want ENDLESSLY until I win. (My wife uses a similar technique on me, but it's usually about stupid stuff like leaky faucets, dirty floors, bad table manners, smelly sneakers, driving fast, driving wrong, and driving.)

I just tell her I am getting another one. It's just easier for me that way. She is always pretty cool about it. Then I don't have to worry about getting caught.

Has anyone ever seen these two amps together in the same place at the same time?
