• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

If they are the original components they will be 300K linear volume pots, 500K log tone pots and 0.022uF capacitors.

Hi Paul
Thanks for the pics of the Capacitors they are so dirty ,they don't look like that.It is actually more than just dirt,it looks like the pots have been in a very high humidity environment, even the strap button is tarnished.Do you think this can effect the Pots and Capacitors,or should I just wipe them clean. The guitar is nearly 20 years old and has been in a case for those years.

Thanks for the information,it is much appreciated

It is highly likely that a good clean and spraying some switch cleaner into the pots will be all that is needed. The capacitors will almost certainly not be affected in any way, they are generally pretty impervious and any dirt or grime will likely be just on the outer surface. The pots can be affected by dirt getting inside them but usually a good spray with switch cleaner will have them working again. If after cleaning it all up the volume and tone controls work as expected then you are good to go.

I,ll second the recommendation for switch cleaner. I bought a 32 channel mixer for $50 because half the channels were dead. 1 small can of switch cleaner later and it work perfectly. I would probably remove the controls from the cavity before you spray it. Not sure what switch cleaner will do to nitrocellulose.

Thanks for the responses - I can confirm that after 18 years unplayed and kept in it's case all that time, all that was needed was new strings and a good clean - The tone is amazing I noted that in the front pickup cavity are the letters R0 - Any idea what they stand for - asked Gibson but they don't know,In the rear cavity is LP5+.Which I think stands for Les Paul Standard with a fifties neck and a Plus or AA top. Also in the front cavity are the letters HB whic I think stand for Honey Burst, although this is much darker that the 2010 Honeyburst I had.

I am so happy with the purchase ,and the high quality of the guitar ,after 18 years in the case ,that I consider it a "Barn Find"
