• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I bought this Gibson Les Paul Deluxe in 1976, second hand for £500. Only problem is there is no Les Paul signature on the head. From the attached photos can anyone determine whether this is am authentic Gibson guitar?

I bought my Les Paul Deluxe in 76. It also doesn't have the LP logo on the headstock. About a year ago I gave it the black light test and sure enough the neck has been replaced. I paid $310 and another $10 for a black and gold Gibson case. When it was sold to me it was called a demonstrator or "demo". Had a couple of bumps and bruises, but it looked the way I wanted it (sunburst finish) and I could afford it.

To VR's point the logo would black light. Over-enthusiastic polishing will remove a silk-screened image.
There was a term for "improving" a guitars appearance- someone help- with a buffing wheel? It will get a shine going but careful for anything in the way.

What's going on by the neck joint?

The serial number font and Made in USA inscription looks a bit fishy to me (the numbers are a bit too close). Refinish or reneck perhaps?
