It was around the time of this video that I heard first Fleetwood Mac on the radio, bit of a kid, 6 maybe 7 years old, I remember saying to me Mam that that's what I wanted to do. Peter playing Greeny was the key in the door for me, it's where I got my start. I've been in that room for nearly 50 years.

Some stuff is important, some stuff is just all soul.

I got to play Greeny - it nearly broke my heart with joy.

The circle complete.

I bring to mind a giant of the written word -

But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
Well please tell the story of playing it. Do not leave ANY details out.

My experience is not on that timeline but similar to yours.

For a few years, Greeny was being passed around in very dubious circumstances between outright fraudsters and similar POS types (in both the US and UK). There's so much that's unwritten, but believe me when I say that it was a cesspit.

You may not be fully aware, but when Kirk bough it, literally nobody was putting their hand up to buy the guitar. Its condition is about as beat-to-shit as any 'burst on the planet, so if having a tiny set of initials engraved into the back is the price to pay for it being rescued and finding an appreciative home, being toured in front of large audiences and being openly shared without hesitation then, on balance, it's relatively insignificant in the greater scheme of things.

Lastly, Kirk is one of the nicest, most genuine and humble people you're likely to run into. A "prick" he most definitely is not. Trust me.
You could tell a story about another guitar named Bluey that is fictional.

Yeah I agree Kirk Hammett seams to love that guitar.
That makes me feel good and happy.

Dosent mean Il ever buy a Metallica vinyl....

Which I don't, but I can imagine. I merely posted that old video to try & get the thread back on rails again.

Spend some time going through the archives, and you can find stories about:
- stolen parts
- fake bursts
- mobsters
- replica husks from a renowned replica builder being used for fake bursts
- lawsuits
- more lawsuits
- Authenticators and lawsuits
- jail
Etc

Of course, the actual plot line is hard if not impossible to put together, but it’s fun to make up your own.

Are we talking about the same Phil?

I think you're talking about another maverick.

On the old LPF platform, the search function was .. well, not optimal.
But now, with the right keywords one might find interesting older stuff much easier I recon. And these Phil names would probably come up often I guess, so with F-Hole's metaphor above in mind ^^ I better put on rubber gloves before I start looking 🥸😄

There are still some threads which are gone for good. As well as a lot of good pics.

Yeah when I read the old LPF threads about fakes, explorers etc. I learn a lot from the old guard, but sometimes there's a link to some other interesting thread and OOPS sorry page not found..
DARN I miss the 9 0623 thread for example.. wish it could be restored without all the personal sh*t, same with a bunch of useful Phil/Phil/Justin/Sheldon crook alert info..

A lot of the most educational threads have gone “missing”, both on guitars and amps. One of the reasons the forum is, how to put it, quiet and the old guard can’t be bothered any more.

Yupp, the most important threads live in my memory... with questioning search function.

OK then. What if, when the time comes, Greeny is bought by a left handed billionaire? Would it be ok if he modified Greeny, a historic significant and iconic Burst, like this?

View attachment 28300

This is (was) once a real Burst from 1959...
I would remove the black crap and the bridge and very happy move on. The second cutaway greatly improves the high frets access and is very tastefully done.
I would not attempt at all to restore it with a surely aesthetically worse result.
