... Revival Drive? Lot's o' knobs and switches, lots o' geld, but, darn, it sounds fantastic.




Now, note that he's playing it through a clean blackface Twin Reverb at a level he can speak over...


The Revival (as in song one from the Allman Brothers album, Idlewild South) is a lot more than a drive, it is an analog simulation of all of the portions of an amplifier, including the power supply, in a pedal. It features two channels, one tube rectified and one silicon rectified. It is designed to work through clean amps or slightly driven amps and bright amps and dull amps, etc. Want to know more? They were all ready to roll it out with a remote footswitch to add a couple of features whne users asked for a couple more features in the remote jack so there's been a little lag as they modified the first run before they released it.

I love gain pedals and this one looks like it can do anything. But I really don't understand the purpose of putting something this versatile/complex in a stomp box format. There are SO many different adjustments that one can make that it's virtually impossible for practical use in a live situation. Seems you simply would find the two settings you like best and then switch back and forth between them. And for just two settings, there's plenty of pedals that'll get you similar tones, don't you agree?

I think the point of this one is how authentic the sounds are. By the way, they offer an outboard switch that adds two more options.

I'm a HUGE OE fan. Gotta look at this some more. I learned from Chase Bliss pedals that sometimes you can cram too much on a pedal. Don't mean they don't sound awesome, it just can take too long to adjust so you end up negating all the benefit because you are scared of losing the good tone you just found so you leave it 'set'.

Bit heavy handed on the dough side admittedly, but you're getting an awful lot for that dough.

Everything this guy does is superb. I think he is one of the most unheralded geniuses of our time. If you saw all the stuff inside a Cali76 TX-P you'd have to find your teeth before you could talk again. I am 100% sure the inside of this thing is so packed you would wonder HOW he fit it all in there and how he can afford to sell them at that price.

My off the cuff remarks about all the knobs above is really not pertinent here, many (other than the large ones) are so you can set them to work with a specific amp. It is pure genius how they work. I could see setting it up to work with several different amps and writing the settings down. Doing it once before a sitting or show is not bad if you took the time prior. It's not like you are trying to tweedle them during a live performance (unless you are a moron (something I qualify for!)).

That said, it IS a high price for a pedal. So I won't consider it a pedal. I'll consider it an
amp multiplier. And it DOES DUANE and ERIC. So OE gives me DUANE and ERIC and LOWELL. Not bad for the price really. I need to flip some sofa cushions...I'd love one.

That's a good way of putting it.

I've been rather fond of Pete Cornish pedals in the past. Compared with the OE, it's the first time I've ever considered them, pound for pound, to be expensive.

Again, well done to Origin Effects - I'm deeply impressed with this work.

This thing threatens to replace a good percentage of them. Besides anything else, this looks to take care of the bedroom/studio level problem rather spectacularly.

Partly what I have been thinking. And I am wondering how well it will play with a Two Notes Torpedo. But my other half says "But you've been collecting all those JBL's !". I think the neighbors will hate me more again...

that thing just looks really complicated to me—- I”m intimidated by it

If you watch the vids and filter what he is saying:

You are concerned with the
BIG knobs which are pretty self explanatory. VOLUME is the input to the unit where OUTPUT is the boost. LOWS is lows, duh. The MORE/PRES is (as I understand it) negative feedback to the left and presence to the right, center is defeated. As they are self defeating it is normal. The BLEND is YOUR amp vs the PEDAL. The further right more PEDAL. GHOST is good straight up to 3:00 for Marshal blending to Fender. The rest of the range is for taste. One of the dips on the top sets whether the ghosted voice is produced from "50 cycle (GB)" or "60 cycle(US)" "mains" or wall voltage. That alone is a stroke of genius.

Just under them the micro switches determine if the brightness point is more British (GB) or US/Fenderish (US). Same on the preamp. A little hotter on the GB side, smoother on the US side.

There is another
dip on the top that lets you use a slightly different silicone in place of the tube side.

The rest of them pretty much let you
tailor the pedal to your amp so you can use anything that gives a cleanish voice to sound like Duanes cobbed Marshalls, Erics Bluesbreaker or anybody's cobbed Fender Blackfaces. I.E. You set up the pedal on a 65 Deluxe or a Matchless Clubman and you can make the boosted result sound the same.

I hear what you're saying Peter about it looking complicated, but I'd venture to say that a lot of the thinking has been done for us at the design stage.

In hand, I reckon an hour or two with this pedal would reveal how intuitive our individual thinking would quickly become.

I reckon I could get vintage tones with this pedal into a cheap solid state amp, and in a blind test, only those with bat like hearing could tell.

Putting it with one's favourite amp, well I can't think of a single amp I don't think it'd work well with.

and by saying that... yes... I”ve snagged one. Dang this place can be expensive to visit. I did get the extra pedal to go with which is an extra 99$ (There is one dealer on reverb that has them in stock in the COE... the rest it seems you’ve got to preorder. I Think there are 3 left— and he does have the little extra pedals)

these OE large format things seem to get snapped up like hot cakes. I feel like these will also go the way of the other large format OE things— which means that they will all be at Ren’s house :rofl

After watching the first 5 minutes of the lance keltner vid (that dude has cost me some money by now!) I was sold

You can really hear the ghosting in that video.
