• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Has anyone put P94's in a les paul custom?

Has anyone done this to achieve a '54 custom type effect? I'm thinking a black pair would look really good as well.

Hey Reinhard,

Try searching past posts for P-94. Ive been very curious about them as well. It seems most ppl in the forum are divdied heavily about them (big surprise!).

Also, check these out too. (There is a link to a picture in the top left corner). I dont know if they make them in gold though....

If you get either, let me know how they sound!

I've had great luck with P94s. Prefer P90s, however for me P94s sound great!--Ask Big Al, I think he like them as well.---Just my $0.02

I think billybling might be confusing P94's with P100's?

don't think I've heard anyone say P94's sound like crap....? I've heard they are pretty faithful to the P90 sound?

I'm not a P90 connoisseur but I like 'em and P-94's sure sound close to me.

However, all things being equal, the look of the Phat Cats (which I haven't tried yet) with their fully-covered look appeal to me much more. I'd particularly like to have a 3-pickup R7 BB with a Phat Cat in the middle because the location of the poles would give it a better middle (read: clucky) sound. Sits under a better harmonic node and the Phat Cat look would fit in better. (Yes, they do come in gold...)

P-94's In Middle Position

Hi -

Here's a comment that I made in a recent post about putting a P-94 in the middle position on a 3pup Lester wired with a separate volume pot for the middle pup.

2. (N/M/B) Burstbucker Pro/P-94/Burstbucker Pro (#2) - BB's covered. Much improved in terms of warmth and the P-94 really added a lot of sparkle to the top end for the Neck/Mid & Bridge/Mid settings. I thought the P-94 by itself in the middle sounded awesome (although a little noisy as expected). I could easily dial in some very nice Tom Petty/Mike Campbell tones with just the P-94. The jury is still out on the Burstbucker Pro pups. They didn't knock my socks off, but they also didn't suck. I think the BB Pro's will probably work good in one of my SG's.

I just ordered some Phat Cats. I'm going to put them in my EDS1275 double neck for the 12 string neck to see if I can get a little more chime.

Currently, my P-94's are in a Voodoo SG - very rippin' sound - not metal sounding at all. More like Townshend circa "Live @ Leeds".

Sounds like a winner. Especially if you use two neck models on the 12-string neck (assuming the pole-spacing isn't a real pain in the ass and it might be).
