Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
Without popping the covers there is no way of knowing if they have the T stamped on top of the coil . Also these are not wax potted and It wouldn't be hard to unsolder the cover to look inside and see if the have the T stamped on top of the coil . So as he won't open them up to verify , I would then assume they are Pat.Sticker T-Tops and not Pat. Sticker as he claims . Seems to be a logical conclusion .
Also the harness looks off to me as they have Orange Drop caps while ok , nothing special and if they truly were Pat. Sticker pickups then they would have either Black Beauty caps or the Bumble Bee Caps . Also with so much gunk on the underside of the Pots it's hard to read anything on them . FYI, Pat. Sticker T-Tops are pretty nice pickups in and of them selves and nothing to scoff at or turn your nose up at , BUT the seller is miss representing here and that is throwing up a red flag for me .
The capacitors are ceramic disc caps not orange drops. Gibson were using ceramic caps on SG's in the early 60's so doesn't help much with dating. If you can read the numbers on the pots (can't see them clearly enough from the photo) that would make it possible to date the pots at least.
The covers look like chrome plated. That and their shape would indicate late '65 or later. It doesn't acertain T-tops or earlier Pat# but it confirms that it can be either of them. You really need to be able to read the numbers on the pots.
The small slot-head screws (brass?) securing the bobbins to the baseplate STRONGLY suggest T-Top pickups. Gibson's earlier Pat. No. pickups up to about 1968 +/- 1 year, used small Phillips head screws. I wouldn't pay any more than $100 for each pickup, assuming they function properly. The wiring harness is worthless IMO.
