• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Hello!

First post here, and I’m hoping y’all can help me.

I received a Gibson Less Paul from my father-in-laws estate , but I’m not sure exactly what I gave. I’ve done preliminary research but it’s cursory at best. So, as you might think, I need your help.

I’ve provided pictures for your viewing pleasure. Allow me, however, to make just a couple notes.

My father-in-law was a county prosecutor in Indiana and in his private practice he dealt with, well, the types of folk who “acquired” other people’s stuff, but couldn’t pay their legal fees in cash, so sometimes trades and barter were options to settle their debts. What you will see on the rear/back of head stock is the faint remnant of “Made in the USA” but no clear indication of a serial number. I think these were sanded off for obvious reasons. Now you can probably understand why I need your help authenticating and/or revealing what it is I have.

more pictures are available, such as back, neck, pots, selector switch, etc…, but I thought these would be a good start

Much appreciation,

Cityskicker54

Is the backplate for the 3-way switch elliptical, instead of the usual circular one?

Ok, now we’re getting somewhere. I’d assume they hurt the value when they made the modifications. Your thoughts?

If you're looking for da money, this guitar won't deliver. Agree with Cody on identification. If the humbucker is some cool old Gibson version, that might be something. These can be cool players.

Has the headstock suffered a crack/repair? Looks like it in one of your pics, but it's hard to see with the low quality photos.

Yeah, the non reversible mods (stripped finish, humbucker route) take a big chunk out of its dollar value, which wasn’t that much to begin with.

On the plus side, like latestarter says, these can often be great players.

I have one and it's a great player. It has a cracked headstock and the local didn't even want it as part of a trade-up :D I'm glad he didn't take it as it does sound wonderful.

That pickup has the extra holes in the bobbin. Could a PAF. If so it's worth more than the guitar.
