Help with ES-335

While playing my ES-335 Reissue the other day the strap popped off and it fell face down on the floor. Luckily there appears to be no damage except the bridge pickup was knocked out of position. By loosening up all the screws it popped back into place and appears to be working fine, but I have screwed up the pickup height. What is optimal height for the rear (bridge) pickup?

Thanks!

Optimal height is wherever you like it.

I like to put them as close to the strings as possible.

Listen, You're # 1 need is STRAP-LOCKS!!

The next fall will break the headstock and you'll have a REAL problem on your hands (been there, done that).

The stupid thing is I usually have the Jim Dunlop locks on that guitar and they work great. I don't even know why they weren't on it, since I hang it on the wall with the strap. Needless to say - I won't do that again!!! I feel like an :idot

I think you were lucky that it landed on the face - and not on the edge - anyway 335s are actually strongly build and take a few knocks without complaining. Troels

And I like 'em as far away as possible.

Bottom line is to twiddle with the height until it delivers a sound that works for you!

Glad to hear that there was nothing major in the way of damage...!

I think Gibson specs 1/16" on the bridge p/u and 3/32 on the neck pickup. Take this measurement from the bottom of the strings to the top of the pickup while pressing the E strings down at the last fret.
Of course, this is only a starting point. :dude
