• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Here’s something you rarely see show up on a gig these days

I was part of a multi band gig recently and this guy was playing this beauty. It’s the real deal, not some overly aged reissue.

I heard Tower of Power in the late 1970's outdoors- and the guitarist was playing a 50's P90 GT. What a sound. But outdoors that sound is really magic.

Beautiful guitar, awesome!

I've gigged my '55 GT many times since I got it a couple of years ago. I don't remember anyone ever noticing what it is, or asked if it's the real deal  Nobody but us cares! I actually prefer it that way, makes it feel safer. Although if someone ever asked about it, it would be nice to talk about these old beauties.

I regularly gig my 55 Special here in the UK. It's a Clive Brown refin which makes it a little easier.

I have used my Lentz 52/59 conversion at every rehearsal and gig for nearly 15 years. A guitar this great cannot be avoided so I use it. When I walk into to a gig with the 4-latch Lifton case that always got attention then the guitar gets attention. I started using an after-market Roadrunner hard plastic case and got zero attention. The one thing people would say to me during breaks was "that guitar sounds different" and I did not let on as to what the guitar is.

These days with aged reissues no one would notice. In fact if you had a 300k real burst, you could take it out and folks would think, “nice reissue” if they even noticed. You would be a no greater risk of someone taking it at gunpoint than folks with reissues.

I gig with my 54 GT all the time, and sometimes take my 56 GT. I use a Roadrunner case that makes it less obvious. Not too many people know what they are. Sometimes someone will ask, "is that a Gibson or an Epiphone. LOL

In the late 70’s wen I had my 1958 it was my only guitar. I took it into the ghettos of Chicago for gigs. It was my guitar and that was that.

Just to counter my previous comment in this thread: I just had a gig and used my 57 Jr. Usually people think it is a cheap guitar cause it's old and ragged. But this time I actually got comments like "is it a real one?" and "it sounds sticky, like how it looks". Made my day :ROFLMAO:
