• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I have a PDF version of the GIBSON MADE 2 MEASURE OPTIONS OVERVIEW guide copyright 2018. I did a Google search to find something newer but just kept turning up the same one.

Does anyone have a link to a newer or latest version?

Hey @matkoehler !

I believe I have in my possesion a 1986 Pre-Historic Reissue, are you able to help me confirm that? I did email Gibson at one point and all they could tell me was (paraphrasing) "it looks like a real Gibson, looks like it's from 1986, and it looks to be some sort of reissue".

Cheers!
Stuart
Hello Stuart and welcome to the Forum. Yes, your guitar is 100% an '86 Reissue. I built a ton of them in the 80's. They were known internally as Special #130. Here's a little-known fact about the '86 models. As you know, the first digit of the serial number represents the year of manufacture, and the last four are sequential. But, in '86 they didn't start back with 0001. They continued with the sequential numbers from '85. The first reissue in '86 would be right around 6 0350. So subtract 350 from your number and that will be close to your "actual" sequence number. Hope this helps!

Very nice tidbits!

Thanks, Mat. I am eventually going to order a LPC with staple, so I suppose we'll have to wait for the new manufactured ones ... if only to assess?
They are going to fit into a standard P90 route and they look badass and they sound incredible...can't wait. It will be second half of next year, joining the Pickup Shop collection.

I think we are going digital, hopefully soon. But no newer reference than that currently available unless dealers received something. I'm not as close to the sun with M2M these days but I'll see what I can find out.

So if I order a Historic Reissue LPC with a Staple, will those go in?

I may be wrong but I thought the routes were different [never saw close up]?

No, it's not typical unless it is was done at a Guitar Center or it was an out-of-the-ordinary request, in which case it takes time to get answers from Custom Shop engineers. If nothing too crazy, should be a quick quote turnaround. Dealer may need to ping CS staff again.
Hi Mat!

I'm in the same situation at that guy.

I gave my M2M order to The Music Zoo on Long Island early last month. They then sent my specs over to the CS.

I followed up with The Music Zoo earlier this month. They told me that they haven't heard back from the CS yet.

They promptly sent a remainder to the CS, and still...nothing.😢

My M2M order for a LP Custom Axcess with a plum crazy finish should be pretty straightforward. And, after over a month, the CS has yet to reply back to my dealer.

What gives?

Patience.
The Gibson Custom Shop is always busy - doubly in November and December for the holidays.
I’d be very surprised if you hear from them before March.

Mat,

Greetings!

I posted a question to you back in 2021 about USA Firebirds being discontinued. Your original answer was yes, they were going away for awhile. You also said that a USA non reverse model would be forthcoming sometime in 2022.

Here is part of your original reply:

" Still a very difficult guitar to build. So difficult that it prompted that headstock change at USA (not at Custom Shop where a Historic Reissue is a Historic Reissue) and eventually let to the *temporary* discontinuation of it and the Thunderbird as you said. But we will have reverse Thunderbird artist models coming up, and we introduced Non-Reverse Thunderbirds which are killer. Non-Reverse Firebirds are next. The goal is to have a more manageable product life cycle...it helps the overall mix. So in a couple years we'll go back to the classic Firebird at USA, perhaps with some concessions like fewer body ply and definitely different tuner spacing. Great idea there, so thank you. "

So, here we are, almost 2023. Can you please shed some light where Gibson stands with A) bringing back reverse Birds , and B) what about USA non reverse Birds.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

If I can make a suggestion? The Klusons used on the Historics are junk. I know they have the right look, but they aren't very good. Any way to get Gotoh to make a tuner that looks right (obviously without the Kluson name) or get WD to make better quality tuners? It's not good when a person drops $5-6k on a guitar and the tuners are worse than some POS guitar from Ali Express.
