• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Hi guys,

I saw this amazing post on the Gear Page forum and hope it is cool to share with my brothas on the LP forum. This guy in Hollywood invited guys from all the major amp manufacturers and boutique amp makers to a high gain amp shootout (bogner even showed up). The amps were all recorded and put together in one recording studio for a whole day of recording.

This is the best amp comparison I have ever seen. Check out the clips and the Youtube vids. I give a high applause to this guy! I had nothing to do with this but I am just passing it along to other gear heads! I really hope I am not breaching some code among forums but this is really great.

This is a soundclick of all the amps recorded so you can compare the tones. Awesome!

After I will post my favorites but I welcome your thoughts...

Vintage Marshalls in a high-gain shootout? Weird. As a high-gain fan I can't say that I liked any of those clips. There seemed to be a lot of focus on trying to find the "brown" sound in all of those amps rather than a more modern sound. Maybe it's just the web compression from Soundclips, I'm going to go through the youtube videos and see if I like 'em any better.

I'm going to try to get the taste of my boot out of my mouth and take back what I said. I didn't discount for the system I was listening on and gave a listen on my own computer. The character of the amps came through much better on a better system (duh) and I was digging what I was hearing. Only had the chance to check out the Uberschall and the SLO and I really like the sound of those amps. Now I'm bummed that they didn't have a Deliverance on the list, my other guitar player just got one and it'd be neat to compare. Pretty cool idea for a shootout, I'm going to spend more time on the amps I've never really had a chance to hear before. :D

Here are the videos, incredible day. Most of the Marshall's were modded by either Dave Friedman or Jose for more of a high gain crunch. Many of the amp designers and dealers were present dialing the sounds of their amps. Dave Friedman, Reinhold Bogner, Rob (Tone Merchants), Jerry (Luxxtone), John (Mesa Boogie Hollywood), Curtis (West LA Music) etc... Pretty crazy day.
