• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Kim and Dave jumped through a few hoops to get my guitar ready for today - I wanted it for a gig on Friday night - really nice of them to do that.

I've just got their pix and it looks just beautiful. Beyond what I imagined.

A bit of background: I bought my '01 R9 from Marks about a year ago. It's a Mick Ralphs, so it's got a bit of his 'aging' already, so I didn't want a refin (I know there are lots of Ralphs around, may not be important to some, but it is to me).

Also, being an '01, it had the white, round inlays that I didn't care for. I'd thought of having them changed.

I coveted a Brazilian Board, I have a couple of guitars with Braz now (64-ES330, 60 MM) and have had them in the past. A really dark Braz Board is what I would have liked. But not enough to cough up the $ for another R9 w/Braz.

I also coveted the stuff on Project X's I'd read about. Condom removal, truss rod. Way out of my $ league though, I figured.

Then I saw the announcement for HM. I contacted Kim right away and dealt with him to come up with a price for a 'D'. So mine is the first one of these they've done.

Also, being from Canuckistan, you Americans have no idea what we have to add on for shipping to the US for repairs, etc. So it is best to get it all done in one shot.

Hide glue, new bone nut and refret are all huge bonuses to me.

I am SO impressed.

Here's the 'before' pic, brown board (was an ok board, not dark as I'd like) with those inlays:

and here's what is on the overnight express right now:

Just look at that craftsmanship.

This is now the guitar I've always wanted.

of course, I'll come back with a tone and playability report after Friday night.

that's sweet lookin. I know there is nothing on the record, but that 01 looks like it may already have had a braz board.

now you tell me.

I thought I had to drive a couple hundred miles north for that :)

NHM: no, I'm 99% certain it wasn't, could be wrong I suppose. Looked okay though, but I really wanted a dark board. My others are all jet black by now.
And, I'm a believer in Brazilian as a tone wood.

Do they re-use the binding, or put new binding on? May be a dumb question, but I wasn't sure how it is done.
