Hi folks,

after some hiatus finally tracked and bought interesting early to mid 1969 Les Paul Custom with interesting specs. :)

Excellent, all original condition, only lightly played. Frets, fretboard, binding and neck overall are especially in amazing shape.

Very light one, measuring only 4.25 kilos, 9.4 lbs approx..
Very very resonant, loud, BIG and heavy sounding guitar with amazing sustain and very rich tone, plenty of punch and typical growl too. Paradoxically is very clean and lively sounding (even a bit bellike and jangly) at the same time too. Its very fun to play cause of the responsiveness and the weight and heaviness of the tone at the same time. Really the final endgame Les Paul Custom for me. Search is over, this one kills every other i have/had... I am really lucky to be finally in the late 60s Les Pauls camp now.

Now some observations and research - interesting is that it has serial 500xxx (have seen only one another with such serial, then come for a very short time 600xxx before more known 8xxxxx serials). So its a very rare one from May 69 with body still routed for long neck tenon, but in fact with neck with transitional tenon. Neck is perhaps one of the very first three pieces ones. These 500xxx ones (not even mentioned at Moonweasels late 60s Les Pauls site) are predating a bit the even rare 600xxx ones from May/June 69. Pots codes are still typical 1376852, from 52th week of 1968.

So its a bit rare one with interesting specs...

So the serials were in this order in 68/69:

501xxx – 566xxx (68 – May 69)
500xxx (May 69)
600xxx (May – June 69)
800xxx – 897xxx (June 69 – Dec. 69)

900xxx – 97xxxx (beginning of 1970 - early 1971)

P.S. Moonweasel, are you still here? :)

Very nice!! A ‘69 was always on my bucket list. I settled for a ‘74 a number of years ago.

Awesome guitar!

Of course, you know tat the late 60s custom is the best. First with maple top, good carve, long tenon (transistional, whatever).
