• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I have a customer that sent me this really cool SG that is a nod to Frank's Baby Snakes SG for finishing. I know it is not standard SG fare with it's Redwood back and fancy Walnut top but it sure is going to be a beauty. I'm interested in what your thoughts are for a great set of pickups for it.

No idea what pickups your customer wants, but that certainly is a beautiful guitar. Love the chamfer on the top bout, seen that on some really expensive acoustics. May I ask you for a picture of the neck joint at the "heel" ?

Can you perhaps tell us how you're going to finish it? nitro? oil?

Thanks for posting. :salude

What type of redwood ? Super light ?

Is the maple spacer also 1 piece solid ?

With a burl walnut cap, this is an interesting combination.

Have you used this before ?

Thanks in advance if we can see some more pics. :salude

As for pickups, just for me, ThroBak Pro-90 :couch

The weight is 5.12 according to the UPS scale it was weighed on today. As far has the type of redwood I am not sure but I want to find out because it is really beautiful. The maple spacer is one piece as you can see in the picture of the neck joint. I have finished a bunch of guitars and have never had my hands on one like this so I'm really loving it. I usually do vintage style nitrocellulose lacquer finishes but on this one it is going to get polish sanded with 2000 grit wet/dry, then it will get a treatment of boiled linseed oil along with more 2000 grit sanding and a final polish on the arbor with white wax. Here is a picture of the neck, neck joint and a better picture of the inlay of Frank.

Here it is after being polished with 2000 grit wet/dry, two coats of boiled oil and a round on the polishing arbor. I tend to be more of a traditional guy when it comes to tone woods but this sure is beautiful.
