• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Hi guys, i am new here.

Chris from Switzerland, 41 and i love the LPs.
don't know if there is a Introduction Thread or so, but will gladly do, if i get a bit more time.

Well, i got my freshly ordered Gibson Package at the Door earlier this Week.
And yes, its a Gibson Les Paul. been looking for some time now for a Goldtop and found this model for a reasonable price.
Looks mint-ish, unplayed and in perfect shape.
No fact sheet or any other Infos came with it, except that its a 2003 Goldtop.
Now i tried to identify the specs but i have my troubles. i found out that it must be a 59 reissue with the brazilian mahogany according to this page here:

1959 Reissue, ranging from 93001-93674
-93001-93006 are prototypes
-93008 has 2002 specs
-3 are korina Flying Vs

So, is this the R9 version?
Who can help me identify the exact model?
(i changed the original truss rod cover wich was a without any inscription or logo)

It's a standard. If it was a classic it wouldn't have the Les Paul Model silkscreen but a Les Paul Classic silkscreen. Also classic's from that era had a stamped serial and not the embossed serial. It does have a nice one piece body!

Gibson USA.
Not an R9. Not Brazilian. It has a Nashville Bridge and Gibson USA Serial number. The Music Zoo page where you got your quote from has a serial number reference.

Nice guitar!

alright, so the serial numbers there are from 93001-93674.
i just thought that there are the first three digits missing. 028 93455 would fit perfectly in there ;)

sorry, i am complete noob, when it comes to the detailed specs.

No, I mean the silkscreen on the headstock. But other than that the nashville bridge and embossed serial also points to a 2003 Gibson USA Les Paul Standard. A 2003 Gibson USA Les Paul Classic would have come no pickup cover. ink stamped serial, an ABR-1 bridge, the Les Paul Classic silkscreen and Classic truss rod cover, I'm not sure if they still had 1960 on the pickguard... Somebody else will need to chime in on that.
The brazilian board guitars you refer to are Gibson Custom Shop guitars (at one point also called the Gibson Art & Historic Collection, now Gibson Custom)

thanks a lot for the heads up. well, i googled all the specs you mentioned. so, it defenetly is a standard in that case. serial numer is defenetly embossed.
what is the diffeerens between the nashville and the ABR-1 bridge? i don't see any visible difference there.

another Question:
Exists the possibility, that gibson might get a hold of the buildsheet and the paperworks that should have come with the guitar?
or any chance that there might be documentation about it at gibson?

would be cool to get these.

You can always email Gibson customer support with the serial. Lost paperwork has always been a problem with guitars, I have seen some brands replace them at hefty cost ($175 for a F CS certificate!) but I have never seen Gibson replacing paperwork.
But who cares about paperwork, just play the guitar and enjoy the fabulous sounds it can make!

Yup looks to be a 2003 Standard GT, The TRC was still cool as ever original unlike the slant script right after it was changed and replaced by the Traditional and then back to Standards again.
I have a 2001 Std. GT and its a keeper.
