• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

How do I dull the finish?

No Gary. You are most welcome here. Your opinion is respected and your input appreciated. But of course not everyone sees everything about guitars the same way. Would you not agree? That's why we have a LP Forum.

I'm not sure why anyone would spend thousands on a guitar, and then purposely try to ruin the finish.
I don't think he is trying to "ruin the finish" but make it less shiny which makes perfect sense to me. There is a big difference. Shiny or not? A personal preference.

I go back to my classic car analogy. The last thing I'd do is spend a ton of money on a nice paintjob, and then try to dull it because it looks too new.
Guitars ain't cars. Enough said on that.

Is a bright, shiny new guitar a bad thing?
Absolutely not. That's why there are many different models and variations to pick from. What floats one guys boat may not do the same for another.

the uneducated Les Paul owner....
Hang around here for a while and you will be the "educated Les Paul owner". ;)

I kind of dig those primered street rods! A guy I know fixed up an old Ford pickup, put a new front subframe on it, hot motor and drivetrain, custom interior, Halibrand mags, but he did zero body work to it. It was covered in surface rust. It looked strange, yet cool. He said he has no intention to redo the body.

FWIW, Murphy cuts the checking into the guitar with a razor blade.

You know,I've always liked muscle cars in a good full even coat of primer.
Seems that those were the ones to look out for because they have put all of there money in the performance of the
motor/trans/rearend instead of the "paint and chrome".
Also they are alot more fun because you never worry about gravel roads or the weather that your out "roddin" in........fun stuff.:dude
Great tip on the micro-mesh!!!!

I had a killer roadrunner that was black primed, it had a 440 6-pack under the hood. Yup, thats where the money went, plus it was alot easier to slam chicks on the hood and not worry about the paint!:lolspin

I STILL have the engine and trans! I sold the dana rear though, it had 513s and strange axles, a wee bit much for the street.

Mopar muscle

whats the prices like over there on decent musclecars these days.
Some years ago I owned, loved and unfortunately crashed (these cars just weren't made with English roads in mind) a 71 340 challenger with a street hemi cam, Direct connection shift kit and ignition module, straight through exhaust. Man that car flew. It was the fastest thing around here at a canter. I can still here it ticking over now. I bought a puny 6 cylinder 70 barracuda meaning to swap the engine into but that got written off by some dimwit before I ever got around to it. After that I went sensible (have you heard what they charge for petrol here?) but I have to say that was definitely 'the one that got away' for me. In more ways than one.

513's.......yikes,I'll bet your rpm was buzzin pretty good on the highway.. :lol1
Man,the prices on the all orig # matching stuff is through the roof, especially the convertable cars.
The non matching # cars are just all over the board price wise, so one mans "decent" is another mans "treasure"....
That 71 challenger sounds like it was a blast....:dude
