How do I submit a custom order through the Gibson Custom Shop?

Hey everyone. I'm completely new to the Gibson Custom Shop.

I'm interested in placing my very first M2M custom order via the Custom Shop service. So I was hoping if I could get some advice from any experts here who've had experience with the CS.

I've been in contact with two dealers: The Music Zoo on Long Island, and the Gibson Garage in Nashville.

I called someone over at The Music Zoo, but they aren't allowing any visitors inside the store. I visited the Gibson Garage over the Memorial Day weekend, and one of the sales associates there give me his business card.

How do I go about submitting my custom order?

The Gibson Garage has yet to respond to my emails.

Can you guys tell me what I need to do in order to send in my M2M custom order to the CS?

First thing's first, take out a second mortgage.

In all seriousness, any dealer can order the guitar you want. Not sure what problems you're running into, but it should be pretty straightforward. Just call your preferred dealer and be 100% on board with the process.

I placed a M2M order through Wildwood Guitars. Couldn’t have been easier. Now just have to wait 12 to 18 months.

I did mine through Wildwood.

They not only placed my order, they inspected the product sent after 8 months and sent it back because they didn't like the neck on it.

When I got the guitar it was perfect as well as the other 2 I bought from them.

These are Historic Selects which are M2M with True Historic parts and finishes.

Are custom orders really that exorbitant? The Gibson Garage told me that a LP from the CS should cost me at least $6000.

Like I said, The Music Zoo in NY is "temporarily closed" still. And the Gibson Garage in Nashville still hasn't responded to any of emails.

Isn't Wildwood located in Colorado?

Do you live there or something?
They'll ship it to you after it's shipped to them from Gibson.
I asked about shipping "worst-case-scenarios" and Wildwood reports two - out of several hundred. They've got your back. Proceed without fear or worry.
Call Wildwood.

Contact Tommy Colletti @ The Music Zoo @ 844-687-4296 or www.themusiczoo.com . Tommy will gladly help you as he is the Best and loves to help people get the gear they want . You will be surprised at the service you get and then some !
Accept don’t expect to see anything in person, like wood. Forget about feeling a neck profile. The music zoo hasn’t been open since covid and still refuses to open their doors to paying customers. They make all their money on line now. I was going to buy a guitar and wanted to see a few to try and they said no way. I’ll never buy there again.

Yes and no.

Yes, they are in Colorado and no, I live in Texas.

They are SUPER on doing this type of work and keeping you informed. I specified the wood on the top of that 55 (shown below) and the 54 had some good wood on it already.

The 55 is a very relaxed or "soft" V neck (as I understand 55's were) top shown below. Also spec'd the stinger and Gold hardware.

The top was specified because I had it painted black...

The '54 had the same that is "peeking" under the wear

The '56 is black over a brown back, gold hardware. No guard (but was included) and was Wildwood spec'd (as was the '54) totally. After receiving it I asked for and received a tan switch tip and jack plate as it looked better. I need to take newer picks...

Give them a call or reach out via e-mail and you will be surprised . What do you have to lose with a call or an e-mail

First - very nice collection of M2M you have

Second - I'm not sure if it's that killer looking counter top or the 55 that's making me chub up, either way it would be easier for you to ship me that 55 2 day air than it would the counter top

Third - you walk into a store pre covid and start to going thru a wall of LP's and ... this one so so, this one is a little nicer, this one is very percussive on the lows and nice push in the mids, this one is really even sounding and resonates very well with bell like top end all while sounding huge with nice note separation and power - I'll take this one. Or you go to an online authorized dealer and check their stock of LP's and find something with a nice straight grained neck, consistent looking chuck of mahogany for the body , nice tight straight grained fret board, bridges saddles seem to be in the right ballpark, top is to your liking , you buy it and it's pooooooo , so you send it back and wash your hands of it. So my question would be ... are you taking a chance on getting a mediocre sounding guitar and how do you avoid that ?

So I should just drop The Music Zoo and go through another dealer?

They don't very reliable.

I've emailed The Gibson Garage in Nashville, and they never got back to me.
Did you call or e-mail the Music Zoo ? You might surprised . Also I have read your remarks about shops not being open to the public . We are in a Global Pandemic of Epic proportions as in a once in a hundred years . Now when talking about a Made 2 Measure instrument it would not matter a bit that shops are not open to the public as a Made 2 Measure is built in Nashville at Gibson Custom and it would not matter about shops being open to the public or not . That's why I strongly recommend contacting the Zoo and like I have said you might really be shocked and pleasantly surprised . Anyway what do you have to lose with an E-Mail or call ? Nothing and you would be better informed after the contact and might like what you hear or are told .

First - Thanks!

Second - Our dining room Table top (around 5' x 5') of granitey goodness. My wife's pick.

Third - At Wildwood they will play it for you (over the phone or probably do a quick video) if you request it and the salesmen are always very honest about the sound. They always told me what they liked and didn't about each. There have been times that a specific guitar was not their favorite of the choices but it suited my needs better. I am not always looking for a bright and clear sound for instance as I have more than a few like that, but a warmer more woody tone. Or one that pushes more or not. I like 'em different.
