• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

How well would a set of Seymour Duncan Whole Lotta Humbuckers work in a chambered 2008 Les Paul Standard?

Just picked up a 2008 Les Paul Standard.

I've got a set of Seymour Duncan WLH's that I've had sitting around unused for about 3 or 4 years now.

I know the 2008's are fully chambered as opposed to weight relieved, and I know this changes the sound, "somewhat"

My question is, the factory pickups are burstbucker pro's 1 and 2.

I'm going to be removing the current electronics and installing an RS Guitar Works kit, and was considering using the WLH's, but am wondering if they may not be a great match with the chambered body?

I play mainly blues/rock/classic rock.

Or would there be a better set out there for this particular application?

I could sell the burstbucker pros and whole lotta humbuckers for another set if it would work better.

Just looking for opinions. Thanks!

My opinion based on years and years of swapping?

You don't know until you try.

Some that "shouldn't" work will.

Some that "should" won't.

As no 2 pieces of wood are the same that is the wonderful and mysterious way it works.

Yup, it is a crap shoot. Most of the time it doesn't turn out as well as expected and you spend a lot of money and time going down a rabbit hole. More than once I've said to self "if only I could get back to where it was originally" or "I just spent the whole weekend dicking around with this thing when I could have been playing" or worse case "F#@&% this I am selling it."

I have the WLH in a very resonant ‘87 prehistoric/standard. It has 500K pots and Jensen paper in oil caps. It is the sound I have been wanting for a long time. I also have them in a routed 1970 Les Paul Deluxe with the original pots and caps. I have no desire to change. They push my 1980 Marshall Super Lead in a very impressive way. With 500K pots, I recommend them very much. I removed the logo by rubbing it with toothpaste. They are more aggressive, and can hang in the mix with Telecasters.

One word of caution thru my own trials and tribulations would be maybe to use 300k pots . As there might be some harshness/overly bright tone with the chambered /weight relieved instrument .
