• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Hum when rolling down volumes??

Man, what is going on here?
I just changed pots in my LP and everything sounds great, but when I roll down either volume I get some hum through the amp. It goes down as the volume is rolled down. I can't remember if my old pots did this. It's not super loud, but enough to be a bother. Everything's wired up ok.

I can't remember if this is normal or not, I always played with volumes on 10.
If anyone could help me out I'd appreciate it!

All my guitars do this (Gibson, Fender). Before/After mods as well. There is more hum "in-between" volume, quiet around 8-10 and quiet 1-4. Wish I knew the "science" about this but I'm guessing it's all that power hanging up in the caps. begging to get out...

Just the nature of the beast?

This halfway vol position hum is louder with certain amps. I do not have this problem with either my HIWATT Custom 100 or Marshall Supertremelo.

Hmm, so this is normal then. Must be an interaction with certain amps' preamp designs. Great, both of mine seem to make my axe hum pretty good.
