• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I don't get it....why buy aged guitar???

I just bought a Gibson Les Paul True Historic and I'm happy to be the one who'll age it as time goes. I'm not sure I understand the idea of buying a guitar massacred by someone else though :hmm

Hi, if you do a search, you'll see that this is an often discussed issue.

The bottom line is - different strokes for different folks.

If you don't like pre-washed jeans then you probably won't like an aged guitar.

I like both pristine and aged guitars. The aged ones "feel" broken in and a player can feel less paranoid about the first ding in the finish. Shiny new guitars are also very cool. :hank

If you don't get it, I doubt that anyone here can make you get it.

Buy what you like - don't worry about what others like.

Ok, I'll bite. Many LP-enthusiasts don't want to or cannot afford to buy a vintage 58,59,60s Les Paul but love a vintage looking Les Paul. Those are the ones that buy aged guitars. I would say that 99% of people on this forum don't have the time to wait for 50 years for their guitars to age naturally.

There you have it. ;)

Hell, in 10 years the Zandratal Pillage will occur rendering us all slaves of the planet Xarkon's many Princessa's. You will be too busy peeling grapes and performing for Princessa Wantanabee to worry aboot the finish on your guitar. The summer's on Xarkan are incredibly hostile, hell, I doubt you will have finish left after minus 50 ℉ to 110 ℉ shifts. Just sayin'.

Whether I like it or not (not ) it's a price point for Fender and Gibson that fulfills a demand in the market place for a vintage looking instrument that masses can afford versus a 1957 Goldtop Les Paul or a 1954 2 tone sunburst Fender Strat for example .

It is a personal thing. I used to own a Murphy aged R9. After a while, I really grew to dislike the aging. I won't buy an aged guitar now, including the CC models. But, again, that is just me. Others like them.

Aging was the answer to the manufacturing question "What do we do with this finish flawed guitar?"

New production guitars with slight finish imperfections are perfect candidates for aging/relicing.

Think of all the guitars saved from the dreaded '2' stamp or worse the bandsaw! :2cool

The best thing about "aged" guitars is that they're still brand new.

New frets.

New pots.

New pick-ups.

New tuners.

New guitar smell.

And they look cool as hell!

It don't take 50 yrs to age one.

They look fake.

I won't pay more for fake age.

A fake aged guitar is not a vintage guitar, it is a phony vintage guitar.

Mojo can't be faked.

Fake is fake.

Pretending is pretence.

No one who knows is fooled by it.
Fake is fake.

Obviously I'm not a fan and my overstated opinion is more of a reaction to years of listening to silly justifications by fakers and pretenders and is only my opinion. Truth is they ain't forced on me and as long as there is a choice, what's the harm? It does feel good to poke the bear though.

Oh, I almost forgot, FAKE IS FAKE:hee:spabout

A lot of people do get it , the cc's are beautiful guitars each one like a finger print . The standard CS aged is also beautiful . I prefer my own ware I have some VOS guitars i bought when first issued and are now very aged looking from playing and environment .

The ageing might be faked Big (i hate fake)Al but the guitar and the person playing it is very REAL.....

The "mojo" comes from how the guitar makes the player FEEL when he plays it.

The guitar by itself, got no spirit, Fake or real.......

I just sprung for True Historic '59 Reissue, aged. Didn't look "aged" in the photos, really, had a gorgeous top, but when I got it this afternoon, I just wasn't into it. The checking kinda freaked me out. It just looks ill-cared-for. Returning it tomorrow...bummed.

I'm not biased either way when it comes to aged or not aged. IMO buy what you prefer. I like both at times.

I do know some that purposely treat their new unaged guitars poorly to make them look older quicker. They may consider that personal aging but to me that is as much "fake" as buying one aged new.
