• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I don't get it....why buy aged guitar???

Aged vs. Real Aged is an argument as old as the neanderthal.

I don't care!

If I'm playing my Les Paul or ANY guitar in front of a crowd anywhere from 1 to 500....

They don't care either!!!!!

My friends, compadre's, LP forum posters, fellow sometimes working musicians, guitar deadbeats and losers et. al. like me...

Buy what you like.

Play what you like.

Make yourself happy and rock what you got.

There can be no other answer to the question.

I didn't get it either...till i fell for a Roadworn Mexican Telecaster. Its a great guitar and feels just right,so,i'm converted.

My R8's (2010 and 2011) aren't aged, and i like them as is.They are getting there,however.:)

My late 80's Lespauls are naturally aged, and feel great to me. That powerful bonding thing.

Still, with the right Lester,i could see how someone would fall for the aged thing, after my Tele experience.

An aged guitar can get you to that point that would normally take 20 - 30 years to get to,as i have with my older lesters. They are very nice players, and a joy to play. Some may not want to wait, or have another 20-30 years.:rofl

Different strokes.

On the other side of fence I really dig how Fender recently started making their AV guitars actually look new, they look wonderful. By contrast, my 90's AVRI Srat neck is already darker than most vintage 50's strats. Wouldn't mind, say, Historic Les Paul Reissues with actual clear lacquer topcoats over a bright cherry burst and white/offwhite parts right off the shelf.

I’ve purchased both, but never because I wanted the aging, per se. Usually, the price was right, the specs were right or the finish was right. I could take it or leave it. I have a $10K Murphy Aged TH58 I purchased in the low, low 5k range. I really liked the slightly faded burst shade compared to the deeper cherry of the quasi-gloss True Historics. But, I’d never buy full price for a Murphy aged. I will say, they do feel nice. It just so happens to be the best sounding Les Paul (and all my friends that have spent some time playing it agree) I’ve ever played—after putting Wizz pickups in it. But that’s a whole other chestnut.

I think you clearly are a go big or go home kind of guy. I like your style

I think this will be a good start to your relic guitar collection

You will find that its maybe even just a little more relaxing to take a relic guitar in your hands and play it, like putting on an old pair of jeans

and no stress that if you bang it on something (I guess it depends how hard you bang it) it will detract from the value-- or buckle rash or any of that stuff.

I didn't get the point either until I got one and now I think the only truly new looking guitar I have is a 2003 R7

I didn't fully understand it either until I got my Shanks. It's hard to explain but it feels like an old friend. I often just hold it, look at it, turn it over, stare at it. (I know, "get a room" right?! :)) It's a work of art really. Doesn't matter to me one bit that the aging is fake. It most definitely has a ton of MOJO. As evidence by the reaction of anyone that has seen it, held it and played it. Doesn't hurt that it feels, plays and sounds like a dream.

My 2013 Aged R9 is my #1 not because it's aged because it plays great and sounds amazing. This was the reason I bought the guitar, it had nothing to do with aesthetics, although it does look cool and not having to worry about a ding is always a bonus :salude

Fender's new Pure Vintage reissues are flat out nuts...I've got a 65 strat in shoreline gold w/matched headstock and the really only thing wrong with it is how thick the fingerboard laminate is...which even an AVH like me won't bat an eye over...only guitar that I played through in a few months to refret with big wires that I like. But as stock, it is a wonderful replica of the originals...I say that having owned many examples of Fender CS...even from the basic 6105 frets on those it's more "hot-rodded" rather than "vintage."

Tom Iam a new to the Forum Hey fellow Players ,If I was to get an aged lespaul from my Girl friend .I would say thanks and next day take it to someone to make it look brand new. I think it's crazy to talke a nice les Paul and tear it up visually ,I believe your guitar hass to earn it's stripes buckle rash , neck fade paint fade and road look the old fashion way "Earn it". Now there are those people that can't play and collect road iron ,and plenty rich to buy a beat-up new Lespaul... Thanks l

I'll go as far as VOS then give it my own aged looks. Not worth the LAB work for me just because you cant age it in a few years or so, I'll save the rest for another Martin acoustic instead. :giggle:
Aged Paul's are only for real vintage Mc Coy IMHO!
