• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I Named My Les Pauls Today

I decided to name my Les Pauls today. Not sure why but, if forced to guess, I got tired of referring to them as "The Goldtop and The Standard" and I've really bonded with these to instruments after being Fender-thusiast for decades.

So let it be decreed that, from this day forward, my 2011 Gold Top LPD with P-90s shall be called Hal.
And the, 2007 Ebony Standard shall be called Bonnie.

Do any of you name your guitars?

Yeah, my 2007 '57 Les Paul Custom Black Beauty is the Shady Lady in memory of my ex-wife's felony conviction for embezzlement, and the 1973 Black Beauty I sold to marry that... person.

Wow, we've got creative folks here. No surprise being musicians 'eh.
Doc and Rock, if I were to follow your lead I'd name my next guitar Bitchy Mc'Bitchface.

Some of my guitars have been named - others haven't.
I've found that you really can't force it; it's got to be a reason or it has to suggest itself.
I've tried forcing it and it just doesn't stick.

Just like my dog, each one of my LPs has multiple names, dictated by my mood. For instance my Ebony Classic: Eb, Ebs, Ebby, E.B., Ebster, Ebsicle, & Oreo. :giggle:

I don't typically name guitars, but forum member Professortwang named my two Gibson L5s guitars. The Cherryburst is "Olga", the Fireburst is "Helga"...

Another friend of mine named my Gibson ES-125 the "69 Chevelle" when he heard the serious rumble I was getting out of that thing one night at a local club.

Another friend named my Zemaitis Disctop "The Machine" after hearing some brutal slide guitar tones coming from this one...

I did name one of my guitars myself though, and that's my R0. I call it "Crack Baby"! When I first got it, it had a very fine crack in the back that ran almost the whole length of the body, so I sent it to RS guitarworks, who opened it up a bit, squirted a little hide glue in there, and the clamped it till it was good as new. It
is a killer R0 and the one in my avatar!
