Hello everyone. I am writing to you because I will receive next monday my new 1958 Les Paul Standard Reissue Washed Cherry Sunburst and I am noticing that on a metal part of the pickward there is a certain rust that the store told me is not a fault but something typical of the VOS finish (my guitar does not It is the MurphyLab model and does not have any relic). I have seen on Gibson's website that the model also has rust in its different presentations in greater or lesser quantities. Is it really a normal detail of this model? I would appreciate if someone can clarify this doubt that worries me since I have just purchased it. The pic i attached you is from de official web site of Gibson, in my case the metal parts has more rusty finish

Can you post some pics of it? If not I still think you are fine anyway. I have had the same experience with VOS Historics. Plus I have seen many others.

I’ve not seen any rust on my VOS’ers. A little discoloration, but that is all.

My VOS historics all came with pretty clean guard brackets. However, my Tom Murphy painted VOS came with an aged guard bracket.

Does it happen to be a Tom Murphy painted? (Pic is of my TM painted R8 VOS bracket for comparison)

The TM painted VOS reissues seem to have significantly more patina on the nickel/plastics than my other VOS historics outta the box.

Personally I think it just looks fine, play the heck outta her. 👍🏻

I just got a new R7 VOS over the weekend and indeed, there's a bit of 'rust' as well on the bracket, tailpiece studs and some of the screws on this one as well It's far from excessive but not something I would expect to find on a VOS. But glad to hear it is 'normal' and can be removed.

Totally 100% normal! The concept behind VOS is that it’s supposed to be emulating the patina of an old guitar that was rarely played and stored under the bed for decades. So metals parts will have some rust/patina, the finish will be slight dulled, etc. Get a Gloss model if you don’t like this kinda look. But yeah, it is absolutely intentional.

Yup. I prefer full gloss "new" so that is what I picked for my Wildwood R0. Otherwise it was indeed VOS and had that rusty sorta stuff.

Hello everyone, today I received my gibson les paul 58 reissue VOS washed cherry sunburst.
I would ask them
1) If you could judge what I had asked about the rust details of the bridge screw and the pickguard holder, if you see them as normal as parts of the VOS finish.
2) On the other hand, I have noticed some scratches, which I have highlighted with a white circle. I confess that it caused me some annoyance because it is a new guitar and from this range....I don't know if it is normal, but it has left me somewhat distressed.
Thank you
Ramon

The brown stuff on the nickel tailpiece screw is VOS. The actual rust on the pick guard cover bracket is not. Scratches on the body are not.

Nice guitar.

If it sounds great and feels right keep it.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Here's one of my VOS. The brown stuff is the same on your Tailpiece screw.

The pick guard bracket on my VOS has no spots of rust.
