• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Ian A aka Tonefiend - our LPF brutha can build some guitars!!

What do you call it? Lescaster or Telepaul? Either way, cool guitar!

Cheers, TB.

That is definitely a fine looking guitar. Great craftsmanship.
But I can't help but notice how much it resembles a JG Bluesmaster. :ganz

Was that the inspiration for the body shape? :hmm

I know Hamer has recently made a Bluesmaster shaped guitar [Talledega Pro]. However, the example I saw pales in comparison to the JG or this beauty. :)

PAF,

First of all CONGRATS on a BEAUTIFUL looking guitar:salude

From your clips, it sure sounds as good as it looks. :wow

Curious for more details. How's the neck shape/size, weight, build quality?Soundwise, is it similar to a Les paul, 335 or tele???

Very cool:jim

I think it sorta falls into 335 territory in the bridge position, with maybe some tele overtones in middle position & LP'ish in the neck...sorta lol

neck is pretty close to '59 LP profile, weight I'd say around 8.5 lbs. Build quality is very very good. Here's the "stats" from Ian's site:

Old growth Honduras Mahogany

Eastern red maple. Slip or book matched.

Old growth indian rosewood. Brazilian available on request

24.625 scale modelled after '50s Gibson

Nitrocullulose lacquer. Hand mixed colors. Aged tinted binding, Burst options available as well as gold top.

Hide glue construction.

Single action old style truss rod.

Hand made pickups, Paper in oil caps, Superpots and Switchcraft components.

6105 frets standard. Others available. Binding nubs, rolled edges for a vintage feel.

Pigtail or Tonepros bridge. Steel anchors and studs.
Pyramid nickel strings.

The highest quality materials are used throughout with no compromises anywhere.

Glad you like it Eric!
Very cool rig! With the Komet, it would be an all LPF rig, well sort of Hogy used to be a member. You also have Rick Norman aka Dr. Vintage pots, and a Steve Rowen aka "Pigtail" bridge. Props to those guys.

Thats my "Standard" model guitar which was inspired by my 2 favorites. The Tele and the Les Paul. The body is proportioned like a tele, but otherwise built like a Paul.

I saw your new Ian anderson on The Gear Page the other day... First reaction was that it looked very much like a JG Bluesmaster, (but with slight aesthetic changes at the front). Your IA looks quite stunning and I like the way the scratchplate is mounted with the top screw below the neck humbucker.

The JG Bluesmaster and, (now) this IA, seem to combine the beauty of the Sunburst LP together with a Telecaster influence in shape.

I wonder what might Johan G feel about this... Particularly as his Bluesmasters are so highly regarded. But, then again, there are countless versions of a Strat inspired shape by other regarded luthiers and I guess some people in the USA might prefer a 'home soil' made guitar... Strikes me as a JG 'lookalike' though.

Ian do you have a website for your stuff, or is it just built to order?

Access, Yes on both counts. www.iaguitars.com

For me, this idea goes back to the Ibanez PF series from the '70s. Nik Huber has his Dolphin model that pre dates the JG. This shape has been used by a few euro builders. Then there is the Hamer, and lately Tyler has a new model that is a dead ringer.

As nice as these Ibanez's were at the time, yours far surpasses that!

I've checked out the Hamer [Talledega Pro] next to my JG and the Hamer pales in comparison.
