• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Anyone know the year of this one. I am not familiar with the 70's customs. The control knobs and the bridge must be a giveaway.

Ideas?

Not mine. Sorry I don't have another picture (especially the serial #!)

Thanks.

Little more info:

The pancake is in the middle of the body. I am trying to get a shot of the neck (volute) and the headstock. Possibly a mid-69 with an added bridge, but I'm not sure of the bridge part. The knobs did appear in 69 IIRC.

Thanks for the info, again.

While that looks a lot like the Schaller sourced "harmonica" long travel bridge used by Gibson in the 70s, I think its probably an Ibanez Gibralter bridge. While the Schaller bridge was used on all sorts of 70s Gibson models, I don't think they were used on Les Paul Customs.

Looks like an early to mid 1970's Custom with changed bridge, tuners, strap button(s), no pickguard, and a refret to me.

Ditto that. Looks like regular 70-75 Custom. Those knobs were used from 69 through 1975 I believe.
I think the potcodes (and other construction features) will help.

Bingo!

I have the Ibanez bridge on my Samick. Very nice, and a little less free play than the Schaller which I have on my '75 LPC. No, the harmonica bridge wasn't stock - I had the store put it on before I took it home as the ABR-1 wouldn't intonate properly when raised to play slide.

And I think T_L is right. Unless you get lucky with the serial number, (0xxxxx was only used in '73, while 1xxxxx ran from '70 to '75) date codes on the pots are the only way to be sure.

My thoughts too. The pancake body and volute makes it 70 at the earliest. Witch hat knobs are correct for that era.

Thanks. I appreciate the info. I would like the pot codes and have asked if it is possible.

I'll update if I get them.

I was thinking that was correct! Thought it might be a bit earlier, until the pot codes. Wanted to be sure I was reading them right.

Thanks to those who provided info! Thats why I love this forum!

Darren.
