• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

If you could only have one amp one guitar and no pedals. What is it?

Well, since I can "have" them, I'll take Jimmy Page's #1 and Robbin Ford's Dumble. :wow

I have a 1964 Deluxe Reverb from the first production run. It slays, but it's too loud to get it's sound at some of my smaller gigs!

Yeah, the '72 Princeton Reverb (12" celestion blue) is a close second. The deluxe just has so much more well rounded tone. Mine is a first run no-logo Deluxe just like yours. been modified with a master volume on the back panel ;)

Here it is with the 335:

hard to choose (old pic many changes)

The obvious magic combination. Most any Les Paul and an older 50W Marshall half stack. It just works!

Good bright Les Paul with sustain and maybe a Traynor Ygl MkII. That is also attainable..... and what I have.

I have to like the tweed deluxe idea, but on the other hand, something like Mesa's Roadking, from a while back, would be pretty enticing, with it's multiple different output tubes, able to select tube or SS rectifyer, and so on, the amount of different sounds you could get out of it was amazing.

It’s a toughie but I’m going for my 2013 American deluxe strat as it has the S1 switching so it’s hugely versatile (gonna miss the lester though) through my newly built Princeton 5W (non reverb) amp. It does clean and it does crunch. Might need a cheeky microphone thrown in if I have to gig it though!

This is fortunately a choice most (all?) of us will never have to actually make. With that in mind, I'd go for my CC#28 (STP Burst) and RedPlate Blackline.

My Tele and whatever.

I was going to say my 5E3 clone, but my Dr. Z Cure has been taking its place lately. It doesn't sound like the 5E3, but it achieves similar results and at a volume level that can be set louder or quieter depending on my needs.
I also have a Mesa Fillmore 25 that falls into the same volume, portability, etc.. as the 5E3 and the Cure, though with even more flexibility due to its channel switching, but its tone is not as great as the 5E3 or Cure.

It’s refreshing to see that even though it’s a Les Paul forum, a fair few are going Fender or other.

When I gigged in the 70's I loved the sound of my '68 Strat played straight into a blackface Super Reverb. What a full, lush sound.

Nearing 70 and pretty much playing at home and also friend's studios I have some nice lower powered amps that sound great but playing with a lot of volume is something I do think about and miss from my younger playing days. I still have the SR, plus a tweed twin and a Marshall 50 watt half stack but they rarely see the light of day anymore.
