• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

If you could only own one electric guitar....

Either one of my guitars. For the last three years I'd say my 1964 ES-345, but the last few months my 2007 Historic has been commanding a lot of my attention again.

A 1966 Gibson catalog says a single pup version is available, but they simply call it a ES-175 (no photo).

Interesting that the body dimensions of the 175 are slightly smaller than the L-5. The body of the 175 is 3/4” shorter and 3/4” narrower than the L-5 but they are both the same thickness, 3 3/8”.

Major difference is that the ES models are laminated bodies, The "L" models are carved spruce tops.

L models get a C added when they have a cutaway. When the "L" model get pickups they get thicker top and "ES" is added to the end of the name L-4CES or L-5CES

Lately I've been smitten with the PRS DGT Goldtop Core I recently purchased. Didn't really care for any PRS guitars until I played this one. It is exceptional.

For me, it would come down to my budget. Or whomever was funding this fantasy. If money was no object, a '59 or '60 LP, of course.

If I had to stay within 'modest' spending parameters, I'd go with the best Strat my budget would allow.

That's easy 2006 Les Paul Standard 60's neck. Has been my #1 for over 15 years.

Les Paul Standard. I would miss my other guitars, but it wouldn't be the end of the world. For the first five or six years of playing electric guitar my only guitar was a 1980 Standard that I still have. It's a great guitar and would be the one I would keep if I had to get rid of everything else.

Blackguard Esquire! Sorry, I know it’s the LPF and all but if I could only have 1…

Either one of 2 guitars I've played.
An original 1958 Gibson Les Paul (gold top factory refinished sunburst in '61) that sounded amazing (at 10 + lbs), or an original 1957 Fender Strat (stock Mary Kay finish w/gold hardware) that used to belong to Iain Ashley Hersey (RIP)..

I love my '55 LPC, but my '05 R9 with Wolfetone pups fits my personality the best.

The '54 strat I sold when I got married. I'm divorced now. I miss the guitar WAY more than the wife.
