• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Have an LP Studio on the way and I want to install the Zakk Wylde EMG set (81/85). They have quick connect fasteners so there should be no soldering involved. Anyone installed these? Anything to look out for? Are the instructions really good?

Thanks!

Does the LP Studio already have EMG’s? The quick connect fasteners only work if you already have EMG's installed. If not, you will have to replace the pots, and output jack as well. The EMG set will have everything you need, and a little soldering will be involved. The instructions are pretty good, but I decided to leave the installation to my local tech.

LOL! I installed a set in my Kelly Star. If you think you aren't going to solder, you are mistaking. The only thing the quick connect does is let you swap the EMG with another EMG quickly. You still have to solder up the wiring harness, replace all the caps, output jack, etc.

Yup, what they said. It does come with two sets of 4 pots prewired. You still need to get the battery connects and pickups connected soldered in. The pots/caps must be changed out, I think to 25K versions. I could be wrong there, it's been a while. Everything is in there though. Nice kits in general.

You keep your stock pickup switch, but yes the EMG's come with a output jack, battery connector, pots etc... everything you'll need.

Awesome! Thanks again guys. Glad I asked since there is soldering involved, I will have all tools ready to go. I had a pro. install the EMG's in my other Studio, but wanted to try and save a little money and do it myself.
