• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Is your Les Paul female?

Female most of the time but they get referred to as "that thing" when they don't stay in tune.

I call mine "butter". One of my band mates said this one plays like butter...and the name stuck ever since.

Yes. In German the guitar is female.

Correct, but they also have songs in the key of H.:wah
I think the whole thing is silly, but whatever floats your boat is fine with me. I like GM's "Hank the Plank" moniker better than any female name for a Les Paul.

My 58 is Laura Sue. My other four guitars are nameless-they have had names, all female, but they never stuck. I think I once heard Clapton refer to his lost 60 Les Paul as the "old girl".... I won't use that one or Lucille.

A number of us refer to our Les Paul as female, like a ship. There are quotes like "She has tone for days", "I can't wait to bring her home". I have no problem with that, I would just like to hear some explainations of why your Les Paul is female.

i'm 55 years old. While growing up i heard my father and all men refer to everything as "She"...it could have been a piece of pipe that was stuck in a fitting...lol i remember hearing them say "She won't budge!" That would be followed by some select profanity...lol...I took the torch in hand and refer to things as "She"..

The guitar is strange in that it is both feminine and phallic at the same time.

TW named his Goldtop (greentop) GI Joe but if I had "her" I would have named her "Ready Betty" after a somewhat seasoned lady (ahem) that used to hang out in the first bar I ever went in.....:ganz

After years of government funded scientific research, top experts on the subject have concluded that all Gibson as well as Fender guitars are unquestionably female. The latest test data also confirm what scientists have long speculated and that PRS are hermaphroditic or she-male. A pal of mine that has several PRS models has always tried to tell me that his guitars had a certain je ne sais quoi. Now I know what that certain something is. My friend can keep his he-bitch guitars all to himself as far as I'm concerned.

That's classic! Thanks for that! :rofl

So, here's my partial theory. Most of these guitars are owned by guys, so perhaps these guys named the guitars after women in their lives. Plus, it makes it easier to justify to the wife when bringing a new guitar into the house. "Dear, I just bought a new guitar, and it's so beautiful, I just had to name it after you!"..."yes, I realize that the last 7 guitars I bought are also named after you, and that's why this one has an extra special name..."Deb #8"!"

I'm assuming that if more women bought guitars that were worthy of naming, there would be more guitars in the world with guys' names.

Ok, my No.1 is "my best friend"....and my best firends are male...:hmm

however, there comes a point in adulthood if you still use the phrase he's "my best friend" when introducing another man that's standing beside you then ...then most likely ...you gay ! :ha

I think most objects that males work with are generally referred to as a she. Males generally find it weird having too much skin contact with other male things. I'm pretty sure a carpenter would refer to his favourite tools as she's if he was pushed.
I've a beautiful shell pink tele..definitiely a female because she's nasty and she smells goood!
