I strongly doubt that! :hmm And I think that Joe B. might be the perfect example, why ...
Joe is ONE of the very few who perform with them anymore. there are so few kids coming up now, compared to what was happening in our generation, that even have an interest in guitar playing at all. and those that are were NOT influenced by the multitude of "guitar heros" that were then playing those instruments. back in the early/mid 70's, they were all any of those guys wanted, played, and talked about... not the case anymore. time has, and will continue to move on like it does with everything else in life.

Being in my 40's all the guitar players when I was getting into music played Strat style guitars. Usually a humbucker/single coil/humbucking type with a Floyd Rose. Of course, in the 70s you saw many more guys playing Bursts and traditional style guitars. The reason why guys like Joe and myself are into Bursts and the classics has everything to do with who we are influenced by, mainly Blues artists from the 50's and 60's. It nice to see these guitars getting some print in the more mainstream guitar press.

I think it is safe to say that we are all "under the influence".

Gladly, I think! :)

i can speak for people younger then 40 (i am 21) i love bursts personally but alot of my friends are not at all even awear of the term, i have to explain to guitar players in my age group was a "burst" is. I am part of a very small segment of younger (not saying u guys are all old) players who love these things. and I COMPLETELY blame it on Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton,Duane Allman all the burst guys bloomfield to gibbons to green to koss. if i wasn't a complete British Blues freak/ 60/70s rock & roll fan i wouldnt understand the fuss about these guitars either.

Congrats GP

-------

Steve Vai told me a story some years ago. He was working with Zappa in his studio and his secretary goes in:

- Secretary: "Frank, Congratulations!! You are the cover of Rolling Stones this month"
- Zappa: "Shit, they are using me to sell their fuckin' magazine"

I'd love to be a fly on the wall when you explain that to other players. :hippy

The articles are really good too. Joe comes across so well, his genuine enthusiasm for the music AND his guitars just shines through. I read all the mags, in one he mentions the vintage guitar community and gives all of us guitar nerds a big thumbs up.

Joe was recently number one in the British album charts by the way...congratulations and well deserved mate.

Good comment about kids in general these days. I put some of the blame on the Guitar Hero video game. It is much easier than actually learning how to play the guitar. Also, teenage dudes are going to go where the teenage girls are. How many of learned guitar in part to impress girls? In the 70s, teeenage girls liked Robert Plant and Jimmy Page. In the 80s, hair metal still attacted them. As hip-hop became more popular, that became the attraction. And there is not much guitar in hip-hop. Country music is the big atttraction these days that still has guitar. Boy, does rock need a large scale comeback.

I agree with all your points but I have to say that Guitar Hero gave me a lot of students who wanted to learn how to play a "real" guitar.

I think it's called "Guitar Player", not "Vintage Guitar Magazine":ganz

You don't put two bursts on the cover and then not talk about them. Basic interviewing 101. :ganz

I am so happy for Joe. He has it all going on! Nice guy, too.

Somehow I feel like he is "our joe" here on the LPF. How cool is that? :)
