• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Hello, if this has been covered before please forgive me. I am a lifelong Aerosmith fan. I know Joe acquired his burst in the mid later 70’s. I was thinking 77-78? My question is were ANY classic tracks cut with it? I know the first record is a 68 Goldtop and Strats and Juniors. Wings was mostly the same I believe. Toys and Rocks had Paul’s on them but I don’t think the burst. I had posters back then which show Joe playing a black two pickup Custom. Brad my have had a burst. I believe it’s on Live Bootleg. But I was wondering if it appears on Draw the Line or the few tracks he did for Ruts. Anyone have info? Thanks, Brian

Quote taken from a Joe Perry interview by "Classic Rock" about the making of Toys In The Attic in January 1975 (But I also know he played played a Junior at this time):
“I can remember walking back to the Ramada Inn from the Record Plant, literally in the middle of the street,” Joe Perry tells Classic Rock, with a laugh. “I only had a couple guitars back then, and I always carried my favourite one with me, a fifty-nine Les Paul. We would walk down the middle of the street at four or five in the morning, because it was the safest place. We didn’t want to get too close to the dark alleys.”

Lifelong Aerosmith and JP fan here as well...it literally broke my heart when a few owners of said burst chimed in here and said that guitar really didn't sound all that good.

Perhaps they'll chime in again and elaborate.

Because ‘80s

question...this was owned by Duane Allman?

Sounds like hype from the person trying to sell it to Slash.
I was offered that Burst earlier by a good friend who knew it well. He never mentioned that story. He sold/traded it and the next guy [I think] sold it to Slash.

So there ARE bursts you chose not to own. ;)

I talked to the owner that had it in the mid 80s. Said he had it up for sale at $4500 for a couple years before it sold. Not sure if it went to Slash from him or that was the next sale. But he said nothing about Duane owning at some point. Seems like a detail that would have come up.

He did not sell it to Slash.
Tut Campbell did.

Not super knowledgeable about this but I think I remember reading that Eric Johnson owned it for a short time right before Slash - wonder why he was keen to sell so quickly as well.

I can't read the text. Does it confirm that Eric Johnson owned it?
Even if he did, it was Tut who sold it to Slash.

It says that it went to EJ and also Derek St Holmes (based on reports), then Tut who sold it to Slash.

Anybody knows which song he recorded with that guitar? One can assume is November Rain because is the video in which he use it, but he doesn't specify it.

I seem to remember an interview back when that Slash mentioned having a Custom that he didn't use live because the sound was too thin, but it sounded great on the record (it was an interview about UYI.) For some reason I've presumed that Custom was on November Rain - the sound isn't quite what most of the rest of the albums are.
He did use the Perry Burst live for a while.

I was looking at another thread here about this burst (https://www.lespaulforum.com/forum/showthread.php?179678-Joe-Perry-(Slash)-burst-folder) and noticed that when young Perry had it it didn't had humbucker covers, and in Slash's possession it got the covers. I wonder if the original PAFs were changed or if just the covers were put back on it, and if it was the original covers or from another burst or a third party made covers.

It also had Grovers back then, and has be re-Kluson'd. I'd find it hard to believe the original covers were kept, but who knows! I spoke with Jason Isbell about "Red Eye" and the same thing happened with it
