• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Honestly, I don't hear a fuzz pedal on that song. Do you mean the talkbox? I also don't hear anything that sounds like a ton more sustain than a normal Les Paul.

BTW, Are we even sure Joe use a Les Paul on this song?

ok, maybe I'm wrong but in your opinion where does the "fuzz" (or dist fx) comes from in the main riff (I'm talking of the original mid 70s version)???
thanks for any help :salude

From everything I have ever read, they have always used small tube amps. Cranked Champs,(tweed and blackface) Princetons, Deluxes etc.

I agree. I'm not sure there is anything more than tube crunch there. I agree on the sustain also.

I am also not sure that it is an LP. During that period in time it may have been a BC Rich.

Although as rich and creamy as some of the tone is on that song, I sure would like to think it's a Lester.

Perry is the master of deception when it comes to gear. he was playing teles, satrats, pauls,a nd the bc rich during that period. He was also heavily int o heroin and smoked more weed than could be imagined. I dont even think he would know what he was playing.

Cranked tube amp.

Joe probably doesn't remember what was used, I've heard that Aerosmith call the mid '70s "The Wonder Years" as in they wonder what happened during those years.

Click on the link in my signature, I recorded the songs on my band's myspace page with a Les Paul into a cranked old NMV Marshall, no distortion, or fuzz etc. just HOT tubes.

Clear as day, probably more than in any other song I've ever heard, I've always believed that was the classic Les Paul/cord/cranked Marshall combo. Not that Im the guru, or anything, but thats what I've always thought :)

Sweet Emotion is late 74-75. The BC Rich does not appear until the Summer of 76. I do not recall that kind of partying in that time period.
1977 was a different kettle of fish.

obviously not being there i could not confirm it but i remeber the bicentennial year summer 76 seeing aerosmith with my older sister and wondering what the hell that smell was . But it has been documented that they were doing drugs from their inception

It's been well documented that Rock N Roll has been doing drugs since it's inception...

Ron, my question exactly and if so, man I can only imagine all the cool road stories. I loved that band back then, still do. But on to the question, I seem to remember reading that the rhythm track was a Les Paul and the solo was done with a Strat into an old Marshall. Pics from that era including in the Walk This Way bio seem to back that up.

I've heard "Sweet Emotion" as being described as the sounds of a tortured, screaming Strat.

Seeing Joe flipping strats in the air ('73 and '74) and letting them bounce :wow onstage, I have little doubt he tortured his strats.

I've seen old photos of Joe using a flipped over left-handed Strat with the talk box. Don't know if that is what he used for recording or not.

100-watt Marshall with 6550 power tubes. Guitar was a Les Paul Jr.

Edited to add that the above was for the rythm track. The solo near the end of the tune was a Strat.
