• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

That is really cool but I have to wonder : Johnny has used his birds mainly for slide since the 80s so I wonder why it would be in the shop for a fret job ? beside those frets look to have alot of life left in them. I knew it had the grafted on headstock but what with the other big repair on the neck. Also Could this Firebird had another headstock at one time ? there is a youtube vid of Johnny playing a bird with a grafted on Les Paul style headstock.

Doesn't his tailpiece & stud conversion look like generic chrome parts were used?

If so, how did poor Johnny get by without premium parts from Pigtail, RS, etc?

Maybe someone should let him know that he's been doing it wrong all these years.

He's still saving up for some bumblebee caps... :)

Cool vid as I have seen that one. If you look close you can see the headstock repair or graft from the back. here is the video I found of him with the Firebird with the grafted on Gibson open book style headstock probably from a SG special or something so I assume its not the same guitar as his # 1 or the one Gibson copied as the signature model.

Maybe he plans on tearing into it sans-slide at Warren Haynes Xmas Jam this year and wants it in top shape?

*could only hope* :)

Some photos show a missing 19th fret inlay and some show it there - separate photo sessions?

Cool guitar. I opened for him and Eric Sardinas about a month ago. He played the 'bird for the encores, mainly for slide.

Now that was an AMAZING thread. I copied and saved every pic. What a gem. It's not the age of that guitar that matters to me, it's the history of a guitar that entrances me, and god, does that guitar have history. Yeah I love 59's like the rest of us do, but I'm far more interested in how much a guitar has been played, by who, and where it's been. THAT'S the shit that fascinates me.

This is amazing.
Many thanks to the one who made this post and make us all see the right guitar in close.
One's again it's not the guitar it's The Man.
