• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Knew that Jorma Kaukonen played several Epiphone signature models as well as a Gibson SST, Fender Stratocaster, Rickenbacker 330/12 string, Fender Telecaster, Martin, Guild 12 String acoustic, Gibson SG, Gibson ES 335, ES 345, and ES 355 models and always wondered if he played a Les Paul. Turns out he has a Goldtop model.

According to his official website:

I love my Les Paul Gold Top. I was thinking while looking at a guitar that almost looked like a Les Paul, but wasn't. 'If you want a Les Paul, get one!' I have one and here it is.

I actually own a Jefferson Airplane "Best Of" CD, as well as the live Jefferson Airplane album Bless Its Pointed Little Head, the Jefferson Starship albums Earth, Red Octopus, Freedom at Point Zero, and Spitfire, as well as a solo album by Papa John Creach and the 45 of Light The Sky On Fire (a Craig Chaquico composition written specifically for the Star Wars holiday special, and later included on remastered CDs of Earth and the Greatest Hits compilation Gold. Allegedly the track Light The Sky On Fire is believed to be from the same recording sessions as Earth.) I also found a copy of Burgers by Hot Tuna at a record store recently.
Kantner also played an ES 355 too.
But I would like to know more about Kaukonen's Les Paul. When did he first lay eyes on it, what tracks did he use it on? I know he was into the Fender Twin Reverb amps in those days, but nowadays uses Aguilar amps.
His brother Peter Kaukonen is also a pretty good guitarist.
I also posted a while back on here about Craig Chaquico and his Les Paul 1959 Goldtop (which is now owned by a guitar collector in Nashville,) and Paul Kantner playing a natural Gibson Les Paul. Here is a picture of Paul Kantner with that natural Les Paul.

But if anybody has info please let me know.

Looks like one of these all wood Les Pauls Custom of end 70ies made by Richard ‘Dick‘ Schneider. The tell tale sign is the third height adjustment screw you can see on the pic.

Here is one in red

P.S. Did you see the price tag?
