• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

hi sickboy

i was in the same boat, as i'd never had the chance to play one until i was talking to a buddy, explaining the sound i've been looking for, for the past 3 months, and he said i should play it

it's got the texas boogie thing going for sure--i can't believe how this thing crunches--it's like old zz top when you turn it up, straight into the amp...also very nice sustain for leads, and the lower volume cleans are really nice and bluesy sounding

you can jumper the inputs to mix them, and it can produce a lot of subtle variety

i still haven't had the opportunity to fully check out the reverb controls, and i haven't played on it just a whole lot yet, so i'll get back to you after a few days on my opinion

well, it still needs some work for a few little quirks, but i've played it a little more, even tested it out beside my 2203 JMP

so far:

number one, this thing is a monster of a high gain amp with the controls up! it crunches with more harmonic content than my marshall--my jmp seems to 'crush' in comparison to the kendrick's crunch

i'm going to take this amplifier back to my hometown over the holidays for my most trusted tech to have a look, and if and after we've brought it up to snuff, i'll post a detailed review--until then, i'll just say it has a lot of potential to become a perfect combo for me

brownpaperbag,
Kendrick has made several versions of the Texas Crude amps, witch model do you have?

hi rock on!

it's a 2212TC model, built in 1996 with a greenframe speaker and 5881 output tubes with the tube reverb box and tank mounted inside the cabinet

the reverb controls are cool--mix, tone, and dwell

I traded in the mark IV for this combo today! Anyone else playing one of these?
I'm a bit late to the party but my LGS has a clean, minty Texas Crude "Gusher" 2 x 12 combo ("Austin" cab), with EL34s and "Brown frame" speakers. At low volume, it's tones were glorious, warm and glassy. I did crank it for a bit using my 5-string Tele and she indeed rocked. I phoned Kendrick and spoke to Gerald Weber and it turns out we're both from the Beaumont/Port Arthur/Orange area! It'll be awfully loud for playing at volume in my living room, but I have no neighbors currently. I won't be ready to buy 'til a few more weeks, but if it's still there, I'll pay cash for it and simply drive to Kendrick and have him give it a check-up. Glorious low end and satisfying EL-34 "bloom" from those big 12-inch speakers.

brownpaperbag,

Curious to know if you are still enjoying your 2212 Texas Crude - I believe that little amp is like 5E3 Deluxe ? I played one locally and it rocked pretty hard and sounded much louder and more powerful than your garden variety tweed deluxe.

I play a 35 watt Texas Crude that has a tweed deluxe tone stack and runs EL34's as well as 5881's. Sounds like a bad ass Marshall with EL34's.

I like it when really old threads come back to life. Sounds like a cool amp. I'm curious to know if the OP still has it and what he thinks.

I woke up this mornin' with the sundown shinin' in
I found my mind in a brownpaperbag within
I tripped on a cloud and fell-a eight miles high
I tore my mind on a jagged sky
I just dropped in to see what condition my tubes was in
